This whole post is in regards to the new album Everything That Happens Will Happen Today by David Byrne and Brian Eno....

Back when this album was "released" on the interent, I purchased the deluxe edition. I was told it would be shipped before November 30, and I would be e-mailed before it is shipped. I see that November 30 is a week away, and I haven't gotten my actual physical product yet.

Was the date pushed back, or have others received the actual CD yet? Just wondering because I have heard nothing about this.

Or maybe I'm too impatient and "before November 30" means they will ship it on November 29. In which case they should have just said "We'll ship the actual product to you on November 29" in the first place.

Brian Eno & David Byrne

Edit (November 27):

The following e-mail was waiting for me this morning:

Hello

I know, I know, we promised that the deluxe Everything That Happens package would be in everyone's hands who pre ordered it by Thanksgiving - as that's such a family oriented event. But we had to have the little house on the top of the container painted better - in China - and you know how it is with house construction - you can get quality, speed or affordable price - but not all three. So speed was sacrificed. We PROMISE they will be in everyone's hands by Christmas, Channukah, Kwanza.

I did see a preview of the tin the other day and the audio chip hidden inside works beautifully, especially the squeaky door.

David Byrne
On The Road

Oh, well. I guess I have to wait some more.

I would like an explanation as to why, as of Monday, I have become obsessed with the song What a Fool Believes by The Doobie Brothers. It was as if I awoke and that was now my favourite song, which makes no sense because I never really listened to it much before.

(This is what happened Monday morning:)
*BZZBZZ* (the sound of my alarm going off)
ME: Ugh, I still feel sick. Canoeing and getting drunk wasn't a good idea.
WAFB: Good morning, Heather! I'm "What a Fool Believes" by the Doobie Brothers and I'll be your favourite song for at least this week!
ME: Why? I've never given much mind to you before.
WAFB: Ah, that's true. But I've been watching you...
ME: That makes no sense... But okay!

Imagine my delight when I found that I own a compilation album (Bridging the Distance) that includes a pretty cool cover of that song by Lackthereof. I'm not sure if I like Lackthereof's other stuff too much, but his cover version of What A Fool Believes is pretty fucking sweet.

Also, is it actually "proper" to tag it as a Doobie Brothers song? Yes, it's on their album (and therefore I have it tagged "The Doobie Brothers" as the artist) but when they play it on the radio (and, yes, they play the version off of the Doobie Brothers' album) they always announce it as "'What a Fool Believes' by Michael McDonald"-- they never mention the Doobie Brothers. Pft, I'll keep mine tagged as The Doobie Brothers.

Does anyone have any b-sides/rarities from The Boy Least Likely To that they would be willing to share with me?

I'm having NO LUCK finding anything except their first album (which I own) and their cover of "Faith," even through the UK record store websites I usually buy stuff from. (I'm in the United States, and the only thing from The Boy Least Likely To we can get here is the first album... No singles, which means no b-sides.)

I'm willing to trade rarities/b-sides from my own music collection (I have a lot of Voxtrot, Modest Mouse, Spoon, Toadies, Spacehog and David Byrne... ). I'm not sure what stuff I have would be that great of an intrest to fans of The Boy Least Likely To, though. I'll try to post journals in which I list the rarities/b-sides I have, but it's such a daunting task and I don't have time to do so now.

So, it WASN'T "Breathe Me" by Sia...

I could have sworn that a song I slightly remember from three or four years ago (sometime in that crazy time that was 2004-2005*) was "Breathe Me" by Sia.

I just lisened to that song, and it's not the one I remember.

The odd thing is now I cannot remember what the music sounded like. I can't even remember any of the lyrics! Maybe I didn't even hear it. Maybe I'm making this up. But I could have sworn I heard a song (I have no idea where) and liked it and someone (I have no idea who) said, "Yeah, it's Sia... She sings in Zero 7."

But it couldn't have been "Breath Me" anyway... It says that song didn't come out until 2006, and the only thing I know for a fact is that I heard this song in either 2004 or 2005.

Did the other chicks from Zero 7 (Sophie Barker? Tina Dico?) have any solo stuff that was released during (or even before) 2004-2005? Could it have been a song by her? Can anyone send me any of their stuff that may have been popular during the time span in question?

*Them were some craaaaazy years for me in which weird shit happened (and I'm sure I wasn't in the best mental condition most of the time), so it's not totally unbelieveable that I am making this all up or that me hearing the song and being told (wrongly) that it was "Breathe Me" by Sia was some stupid dream.

New albums I dug in 2007

2007... Hm. I bought a shit-load of albums during that year, but a majority of them were not new.

I guess I only have a "TOP 2 of 2007" list:

(1) Wincing the Night Away
This was the one I loved the most this year, which is a suprise considering...

(2) Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Spoon. My favourite band. I loved this album, but I loved it less than I loved an album by a band I thought I hated (I have since grown to not hate The Shins).

HONOURABLE MENTIONS:
(*) We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank
It kind-of-sort-of sucked as a Modest Mouse album, but it reminded me of Talking Heads and the newly not-hated The Shins, so I actually liked it as an album. Yeah, it confused me, too. And Florida will forever remind me of leaving Florida-- because it came on as we left the state on I-10.

(*) Voxtrot
Oooh-kaaaay... Should this even be here? I debated, and came up with "YES" because it includes such great tracks as Blood Red Blood, Kid Gloves, Steven, Firecracker, and Ghost. The rest of the tracks I tend to skip through. If they had made it a five-song EP with the above tracks, it would have been number two or three on my list, instead of just an honourable mention. (Yes, I favour the earlier EPs of Voxtrot...) But it was their first try at a full-length, so that has to count for something... Right?
