The first thing I have to say off the bat is that someone had better fucking write an angry song or protest about the new movie coming out "swing vote." As a 'cautious America' I would like to think I accept only the things that I see as credible and honorable. This movie is generating more bullshit around the no longer pure process of voting. People no longer keep their political choices to their selfs, which is awesome. However, the bad side of this is this also applies to both powerful and influential people all over the world. Just as people wear what their idols do, they also just might vote like these idols do. I see this dichotomy as a form of inferential control. Just as these people indirectly influence the actual winning candidate, they also now appear to be perpetuating the illusion that one fucking American controls the vote. I'm tired of all these lies and fantasies.

The problem with this fallacy of making a difference with a single ballet is creating both are stagnant economy and political scene. Lemme rephrase: no enough people feel the need to stand up and improve these things outside of the tiny worthless effort of voting. I wish there was a commercial showing people the power of rhetoric or something. We need to stop saying we're voting for the lesser of two evils, and instead vote for who we fully believe in. After waiting a number of years to see Static-X, I would say they still know which songs are best, and they still have that amazing sound I remember from their first CDs. Their new CD came out the same day as the concert. In order of performance, SiOP was a disappointment. Their vocalist sounded kind of like Disturbed, which is good when it's original. Their guitarist sounded something like Pantera or some classic thrash metal. And their drummer had trivial parts. I'm sure there were many people that liked their sound, but after thinking about what the drummer from 2Cents said about originality I figured there was a reason he didn't mention SiOP.

Next, came 2Cents, I've seen this band once before, the other time I saw them they opened for Killswitch Engage, with the same line-up. I loved their performance both times. The Drummer/vocalist had some new witty comments and they still were entertaining. Overall I'd say both, when I didn't know their music (the first time I saw them) and this time I liked their last song best. Mostly the reason for that was the presence of Reign in Blood of Slayer's. That song brings back memories from when I saw them with Slipknot. *Sigh* what a great night.

Otep was next, and she held up to all my standards. Again, this was my first time seeing her as well. I was disappointed only by the length of their set. However, the stage presence of all four members could not be beat! Their bassist ("Evil" J. McGuire) was fun to watch, and their guitarist appeared to be a totally different person. Karma Cheema either got really old really fast, or they had to have a temporary replacement. Or he bleached his hair... Anyhow, I was happy with them because they played all three songs (Ghost Flowers, Crooked Spoons, and Confrontation) from their Promotional CD find it here.

Finally, came Static-X, at about 10:15 or so. I would say I was extremely happy with their sound, attitude, and song choice. They even played my favorite old school song: Sweat of the Bud. Every song except Sweat of the Bud (because of it's more relaxed nature) there was energy I have never seen in the Realto Theater before. The mosh pits was insanely big some of the time, pushing the crowd all the way to the walls! Well, on the third I arrived at the Rock at about 6:30 and waited outside until right before the concert started. After I went inside, the line-up began with a local band which I think was supposed to replace 36 Crazyfists. The upsetting thing was later that night I was talking to Mercedes Lander and she said that she had no idea why 36 Crazyfists missed the night. If I went by the rumors I heard, I think one of the band members was gone or got hurt or something. Anyhow, the second band to play was In This Moment. I have to say their live performance put their CD to shame. I listened to their mp3's and the sound quality was good and everything. However, in my opinion the screaming and such sounded quite incredible live. Anyhow, I might be just overly excited about the whole night because of how much energy was present.

I noticed the security had to actually beat the crap out of several attendees because of them being out of hand. I have a feeling that there were also some drugs involved there too. Anyways, getting back to the music...In This Moment had incredible stage presence to start off the planned show. The performance during "Prayers" was especially enjoyable. Personally I could have been entertained by just looking at her [Maria] ridiculously cool hair.

Dead to Fall had a good sound too, I think the majority of my excitement (as said before) is due to the sound quality of the venue. I felt that whoever chose to put them in that order did so to give a change in pace so as to not bore the audience. The only song I knew by Dead to Fall was "Eternal Gates of Hell" which was well worth my time both in mp3 and live.

The next band was Walls of Jericho which I don't actually happen to like on their recorded tracks. However, their live show was very enjoyable. The vocalist had great stage presence and a great screaming voice.

Finally I got to witness Kittie. By the time they were on it was between 10 and 10:30, which Mercedes had mentioned as the plan when I talked to her earlier. I would like to note how the singing of Morgan Lander and Mercedes both was top notch during the whole performance. Their harmony parts were very well executed, judging that they had low quality monitor speakers.

I was just reading something on a user's page about how In Flames now suck in comparison to their older Melodic Death Metal CD's. The arguments following the user's journal entry almost drove me to anger. In the area of metal, or any genre for that matter, there are those who decide to make a song because they have a basis on a verse or a chorus. There are also those who start writing a song because the melody, rhythm, or support (bass) in their mind screams to be expressed. I think the problem (for example) with both Soilwork and In Flames, amongst many others is they start with the melody and repeat it, them the drums and bass copy that basic rhythm. It's almost like they wouldn't dare let the guitar be individual or stick out. Thats the problem, the songs really break down when the guitarist is trying to make a transition and everybody copies his.

Well, maybe you don't get what I'm trying to say, or maybe you think this is bull crap. So let me give you a good example of a band who doesn't do this. Lamb of God. Think about how chaotic their songs would be if everytime the guitarist or drummer added beats the other copied. It would sound like when you drag your mouse over a midi machine. In a good way Soilwork and In Flames (both nu-metal / melodic metal) in my opinion have that ability to somehow make the bassist and drummer 'sing' the melody with their instrument. Thats a good thing.
