I'm part of several mix tape communities. People often upload a mix they have made, to show it off, to share it with other members.

Whenever a mix seems like it could be something I might like I will download it.
But I'm hardly ever, [read: i've yet to find one] blown away by any of them. I think they lack structure, I don't think that the person who put them together put thought into, just slapped some songs together.

I just download a driving mix, I'm four songs in and I already want to delete the playlist from my computer. I'm not sure if I'm being a snob, if I should give these playlists a few more listens before judging them so harshly.

Then again, people could think the same about my mixes. I'd like to think if someone listened to a mix of mine and thought it was shit, they'd tell me. It's constructive criticism. Tell me what you didn't like about it, so I can work on it for next time.

After all, mix tapes are an art form. so i've started every fortnight when i get paid, when i'm at work i jump on the net and buy myself 2 cds or a dvd and a cd off the jb hifi online website.

my first purchase was season 1-3 of the l word (on special) and Junior Senior album, Hey Hey My My Yo Yo.

i figured that i could try and do a review each time, so that way i actually get to have a think about each cd for what it is, instead of just another in my collection.

i picked this cd, because i got bored at work and was looking on you tube and found the clip for Can I Get Get Get, i thought was a pretty rad track and then i found a few more.

after listening to this album the whole way through the moment i got home and found it in the mail, i've added the band to the list of bands i really really like.

Hey Hey My My Yo Yo is one of those albums which doubles as great just sitting around with mates background music, to something that you could put on at a party.

my house mate and i came to the conclusion that Junior Senior are a mix between Architecture in Helsinki and Bee Gees.

and then i always like to read the reviews to see if there is anything the cd i have failed to notice.

The twosome's gleeful confections are more than a little over-the-top, but repeat listens will reveal some truely indelible melodies beneath those stylistic frills.

Their heavenly mix of mix of giddy silliness, pop smarts and pop culture overload makes Hey Hey My My Yo Yo a fun-filled, joyride from beginning to end.

The songs have as much personality as ever, reviving bygone styles, from falsetto lite-funk to electro proto-rap, with goofball energy and a music geek’s careful ear

i was greatly dissapointed with this event.
as you walked in the door you had to sign a waiver stating you would not hold the venue at fault if anything were to happen to yourself.
the stages were way too close and the music was muffled into each other and there were way too many people.

don't get me wrong, i'm all for a packed atmosphere, it addes to the atmosphere. but waiting in line for about half and hour and then finally got to sign the waiver and then enter the venue.

the only reason we went is because carrie wanted to see vanilla ice, and i thought it would be pretty rad.

we were there for about half an hour and we decided to leave and go sit somewhere else that wasn't in the venue to just chill until vanilla ice came on, and once we were out of the venue we decided we didn't want to go back, and that it wasn't worth it.

where do i start. i was so excited for this gig and i wasn't quite sure why. i've heard some of her stuff, i saw her sing that Talking Heads cover of Phsyco Killer and absolutely loved it and saw a glimpse of her on the ARIA's when i was flicking through. I basically knew "Words", and that i had been wanting to see her since i first moved to brisbane this time last year.
again, at the tivoli, i have decided i really like it here, a really nice venue.
we missed the first act, but arrived in time to catch the second support act Dead Letter Chorus.
At first I didn't think i liked the music that much. But with the exception or one or two songs they played i actually really liked them. i would love to buy their cd.
swapping between both male and female vocals, makes a very nice contrast, as the bands almost feels a tad country-esq, then female singer (sorry don't know names) sings with the sweetest voice.
also for the bands last song, mates of the band, The Gin Club, joined Dead Letter Chorus on a jam packed stage to scream out the last song.

All night for some reason i was hoping the kate would come out in something yellow. and when she finally came out, she was.

And she began, with the first song of the night Little Adam. She went through each song, with banter in between, stating how she was happy to be back in brisbane after a 3 week tour, and her band were great.
A highlight i would have to say, would be the australian idol song, which i absolutely adored.

Kate's voice, amazes me, the way she uses it, it's like vocal gymnastic, and for such a small person, (yes, she's one of the little people) she can belt out a tune. The highs, the lows, and even the growl.

At the end i waited around like a star struck teenage girl, i needed to see her and tell her how amazing i thought the gig was.

So we waited around, and she came out and did a meet and greet signing things and all that.

Kate is adorable and currently working her way up into my favs. I cannot wait until her next show in the area, i will be buying tickets without a second thought, and i recommend the same for everyone.
