Has anyone checked out http://musicovery.com yet? It's a flash player that streams music based on your preferences along 2 axes: calm vs. energetic, and dark vs. positive. Oh, and you can choose between ambience or dance, and even filter by time period.

Sounds like an odd way to pick music, but I've found it to be better than Pandora at picking music I will like. I've kept the app open for awhile now, which is something I've never done wtih Pandora or even the last.fm player.

Do give it a looksee (listen?)! The thing is in French, but it's not too difficult to figure it out.

Found during today's MeFi reading: a japanesealt-rock band called Supercar (MySpace profile). They're not bad! Too bad they're broken up already.

Actually, the MeFi post linked to a couple of music videos. I saw this one and found it kinda disturbing, kinda funny; I think I would've enjoyed the music better on its own. Hence the MySpace link (because without its support of unheard-of bands, MySpace has no redeeming social value - grrrr).

Interesting Christian Music?

Any suggestions for good, current christian artists? I haven't listened to much Christian music since maybe 2000, mostly because on the rare occasions when I do tune in to Christian radio stations like this one, I can only hear my brain cells screaming for help as they collapse in on themselves.

I used to like Jars Of Clay and DC Talk, and I liked the OC Supertones when I was into ska. I greatly admire Steven Curtis Chapman as a person, and have enjoyed his music in the past. I find Switchfoot tolerable. I didn't like the Kry. I don't know why. Plumb was okay.

I guess I'm looking for somewhat independently-minded artists who feel a little more, I don't know exactly...maybe...more authentic? than stuff from, like, Crystal Lewis or Michael W. Smith. Who would you recommend?

For some reason listening to Air helps me concentrate on doing my work, when I'm writing papers or doing research. Sometimes I'll put on Radiohead or Moby or classical music, but for now Air seems to be the most effective. I'd be interested in seeing what other people play when they want to concentrate on work.
