Além disso, Go!

Even though I didn't know many of the artists, they were good stuff, and similar to things I like. Similar even according to last.fm's standards. Which made me think they're system for matching tastes needs improvement.

Most likely it analyzes common artists between users, rather then matching similar artists as well - which to me is a fault.

Of course doing something like I propose would increase your number of musical matches immensily, it would help to separate people whose music taste you MIGHT enjoy from people who you'd never want to go to a party with, making things more fair.

Sun 25 Nov – Motomix - Apparat

Durante o show do Apparat houve reclamação quanto à presença dos fotógrafos e cameramen no palco.

E assim terminou o primeiro dia do festival.

The timing and the power of it have struck me hard. So here it goes:

Will someone please call a surgeon
Who can crack my ribs and repair this broken heart
That your're deserting for better company?
I can't accept that it's over...
I will block the door like a goalie tending the net
In the third quarter of a tied-game rivalry

So just say how to make it right
And i swear i'll do my best to comply

Tell me am i right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together

I feel must interject here you're getting carried away feeling sorry for yourself
With these revisions and gaps in history
So let me help you remember.
I've made charts and graphs that should finally make it clear.
I've prepared a lecture on why i have to leave

So please back away and let me go
I can't my darling i love you so...

Tell me am i right to think that there could be nothing better
Than making you my bride and slowly growing old together
Don't you feed me lines about some idealistic future
Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures

I admit that i have made mistakes and i swear
I'll never wrong you again
You've got a lure i can't deny,
But you've had your chance so say goodbye
Say goodbye

This is mostly regarding my ex-girlfriend, with whom I had a rare clean break, but I still wonder about what could have been everyday.
There are things I want to do but I don't know
If they will be with you, if they will be with you
There are things I want to say but I don't know
Listen ever get a feeling
When you're taken by the hand
And then of course you can
Come out
Went to bed but I'm not ready
Baby I've been fucked already
Falling into line but I'm doing nothing
We've got nothing worth discussing.
Went to go but it's all hazy
People say I'm going crazy.
(Repeat all above)
(Bridge)
All I know is all I know
What I've done I leave behind and
I don't know what sort to find me.
All I know is all I know
What I've done I leave behind and
I never thought i's say this about a Lily Allen song but this one is the most complete right now, considering my personal and professional lives and my thoughts about the world in general. Strangely enough, with all taht's been going on lately I do feel good (at least about who I am).

Do you think, everything, everyone, is going mental,
It seems to me spiralling outta control and it's inevitable,
Now don't you think,
This time is yours, this time is mine,
It's temperamental,
It seems to me, we're on all fours,
Crawling on our knees,
Someone help us please

Oh Jesus Christ almighty,
Do I feel alright? No not slightly,
I wanna get a flat, I know I can afford it,
It's just the bureaucrats who won't give me a mortgage,
It's very funny cos I got your fuckin money,
And I'm never gonna get it just cos of my bad credit
Oh well I guess I mustn't grumble,
I suppose that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Chorus
Oh yeah, so fine,
Everything's just wonderful,
I'm having the time of my life.

Don't you want something else,
Something new, than what we've got here,
And don't you feel it's all the same,
Some sick game and it's not insincere,
I wish I could change the ways of the world,
Make it a nice place
Until that day,
I guess we stay,
Doing what we do
Screwing who we screw

Why can't I sleep at night,
Don't say it's gonna be alright,
I wanna be able to eat spaghetti bolognaise,
and not feel bad about it for days and days and days.
In the magazines they talk about weight loss,
If I buy those jeans I can look like kate moss,
Oh no it's not the life I chose,
But I guess that's the way that things go,

Chorus x2

Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba etc.

Oh Jesus Christ almighty,
Do I feel alright? No not slightly,
I wanna get a flat, I know I can afford it,
It's just the bureaucrats who won't give me a mortgage,
Well it's very funny cos I got your fuckin money,
And I'm never gonna get it just because of my bad credit
Oh well I guess I mustn't grumble,
I suppose that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
I am hoping for a re-arrival of my health
Sleeping eye sockets
Baby suck your thumb
I'll keep you in my locket
A string I never strum
It's become so obvious
You are so oblivious to yourself

One of the cool things about last.fm for me is that it has solidified something I already have been using for a long time: Friend recommendations. Whenever I am bored with the music I have I summon my friends for help, and sometimes they just give me for free.

So now I have created tags to help me remember who recommended me what (and there might be a dispute in some cases), including last.fm's recommendations itself. It's a work in progress: I'm trying to remember everything and include things people told me about ages ago that now are very much a part of my life - including painfull memories. Much in the style of Rob Gordon/Flemming's autobiographical record collection.

Anyways, I started this post because of some marcos recommendations that came in the form of a cd. So here goes my review of the artists:

The Flatmates: Inconsequentialy fun. A little bit of punk, very pop, a dash of twee and some hidden surf music. The kind of music you can't help wobbling your head to.

Manhattan Love Suicides: Tons of fun, speciallyThings You've Never Done, i can't help but shake some part of my body to it, it needs to be just a pinkie. Also punkish and tweenish but with a darker, heavier tone; but still has a teenage taste to it.

The Rentals: Mostly harmless. Quite honestly i didn't like it. It's not offensive to my ears, but it's not pleasant either, seems like a whatered down version of Super Furry Animals meets Blur.

Rilo Kiley makes me think of Hello Kitty in case she had a punk rock band (and the names even sound alike! - try talking "hello kitty rilo kiley" really fast five times in a row). Twee as hell, even tweener then Isobel Campbell joining CardigansIt's not as dull as The Rentals, but it certainly isn't very catchy for me. I have noticed a lot of people listening to it recenly, and I can't see the attraction, maybe there's some feromone thing involved, like Dido. Thoug I must admit Frugcought me hook, line and sinker.

Spoon didn't do it for me either. It's not that I think it sounds bad, I'm just not very atracted to it, I'm not bothered by it either, like The Rentals, only better. They seem to know what they're doing music-wise, so probably I have a problem.

Well, all of those listed above were artists I hadn't heard before. But Marcos was kind enough to include a treat for me:

LadytronWitching Hour. Well, I already liked them very much in the past, and must say that this new album kicks ass. It's very much what you'd expect from a Ladytron album, only darker. Like when they changed Star Trek uniforms to all black and grey: It's all the same underneath. Love it.

The disadvantage of the CD is that it already came rated in itunes, and Marcos seems to love everything. Almost all songs were either 4 or 5 stars, which means they ended up in my Top Rated playlist. My iTunes rating is a random thing, so now I have to do a little cleaning up.

Billy Corgan: Fuck You!

I've never cared much for the Smashing Pumpkins, and since a former lover of mine started making poorly vailed remarks about me and the relationship using SP lyrics I've started to dispise them.

In my humble opinion, Auf der Maur is the only thing good to come from it.

In any case, after a decade of masturbating to his own feces in his basement and launching a band with a silly name (Zwan), Billy Corgan decided to once again annoy the world under the Smashing Pumpkins brand.

To my personal delight, a friend just sent me a link to this piece of news. Cutting it short: in order to get ALL of the tracks for Zeitgeist the die-hard fan (and they won't go down easily, i tell you) has to buy FOUR different versions in different stores.

Tha only gows to show how self-centered, obtuse and ignorant Corgan is. Even if he's not entirely responsible for this horrendous decision, he certainly had some input. In a time where everything related to information is becoming more fluid and loosing boundaries, Smashing Pumpkins is trying to raise more!

I understand the novelty of collectors' items, and I enjoy some of them from time to time. But they are turning what was supposed to be the BASIC product into a half-ass collector's item.

In the end this will have the reverse effect, or so I hope: Most people will buy two versions tops and get the rest from they're favorite p2psoftware.

No person that buys four different versions of the same album deserves any sort of respect (specially SP albuns) and Billy Corgan desirves a blazing iron pipe up his ass after this one.

The Burnout series of games is excelent. I've only played two instalements and love it. One of the strong points, that get you jazzed up to smash cars all around is the soundtrack.

I've been playing Burnout Dominator and paying close atention to the soundtrack. And soon I was hooked for the fact it's got some great bands like LCD Soundsystem and Jane's Addiction, and though Avril Lavigne would be a low point, I must confess that Girlfriend is great for driving like a bat out of hell (and the mandarin version is incredebly funny).

A band I wasn't familiar with whose song caught my ears while racing was Shiny Toy Guns. The track was tons of fun and the kind of thing I would play at a party.

I was so excited that I decided to download an album from them. First I checked their page on last.fm, which paired them with The Faint and Death Cab for Cutie; since those are bands I enjoy I thought it would be a good call.

How wrong was I. The band is pure crap! A cheesy attempt of replicating 80s shitiest bands. All the tracks remind me of the soundtrack to neverending story. And to Add Insult to Injury I found out that the track I enjoyed from the game, Le Disko, has a "neverending story-ish" interlude - if I play that bit at a partyI might get kicked out.

I was cheated by both Burnout and Last.fm

After all this time without writing anything at all I'm back just for a quick addition to something I'll call bands that define me. It's not a very tight group, which is logicall since we're all constantly changing our minds and mood.

But even the bands that I used to really love and don't listen to as much now are still on that list (though not all of them, my taste hasn't allways been superb). It's like In My Life says:

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them

(for the record: I prefer the Johnny Cash version)

And the band is Broken Social Scene. An old recommendation from my girlfriend, I only bothered to actually check it out after I watched the movie Half Nelson (which I highly recommend), which was permeated with BSS songs.

It amalgamates qualities from other bands on my list with a little edge to it. It's melancholic like Cardigansand Belle & Sebastian, but doesn't sound as country-ish; there's a thick urban feel to it. It's also angry like Garbagebut not as adolescent, and finally is as rich and complex as Primal Scream(with no buts, there's no downside to Primal Scream - yet).

Growing up is just that. You keep enjoying the same stuff, but like I said, with a little edge to it.
