Hanne Hukkelberg has always been an odd and unconventional songwriter. Unlike some other Nordic artists, she has never been satisfied with expressing melancholy alone. Daring to experiment with instrumentation and verve, her debut album Little Things was a calm yet playful work of real substance given a human touch through the use of found sounds (bike wheels, wine glasses, raindrops etc.). Her second, Rykestrasse 68, showed more of a rock drive with uneasy, slightly schizophrenic vocals, intense gradation, little technical figures and interesting turnarounds, all incorporated into a relaxed, jazzy mood – a setting that suited her well, providing space for her vocal modulations, while the folksy traces in her work added an element of traditionalism.
Read a whole review of Blood From A Stone on WearsTheTrousers.com

The beginning of the spring is the right time for a happy, shiny and optimistic music, but the melancholic one is fitting to this season as well. Evenings are still cold and the darkness is not in the hurry of going away. In these rainy, foggy days you might want to calm down and rest by the sounds of sensitive guitar accompanied by silent piano, both lead by wonderful soprano. These attributes are fulfilled by talented artist Marissa Nadler, who has recently released her fourth album, Little Hells Stories of abandoned, unwanted or dead characters are sung very sentiently and suggestively. „Little Hells“ are one of best albums of this spring.

Leaves play one of the most straightforward music on Iceland. There are no experimental beginnings and strange darkness like Sigur Rós, they don't surf among genres like Björk, they don't search for odd newness like Múm and there are no attempts to compose contemporary classic music like Jóhann Jóhannsson, or Ólafur Arnalds. Leaves have set exact boundaries just in the beginning of their carrier and they haven't crossed them since then.
