last.fm — like everything and everyone on the internet — is facing outdated shameful copyright issues about digital content. It is an old and long story about humans freedom vs. the conservative world in which we live.

Sadly last.fm is a business company owned service: it's hard to believe that they would spend time and money in such ethical issues, no matter how important they are or how big would be long terms benefits (for us, for the service itself, for the Internet).

On the other side, they could do a lot in this direction and until they don't do anything I see this as a lack of responsibility and ethics.

For example, last.fm could take more effort to communicate us what we can and can't do on the site. A little step forward in the direction of our rights would just tell us how much an artist/label understand this issue:
http://gpberlin.tumblr.com/post/190406884

They should also have a clear, informative page where they inform users about legal issues they are facing to, and why and how our freedom is limited by those policies. They should apologize for the limits we/they have, and ask majors, labels, artists, politicians more attention to this problem.

They should allow artists to play a whole album or just say us "sorry, this artist or his label has chosen you cannot play a whole album, or pause the music, or make a playlist just with his tracks {Read more}" etc.

There's a lot they could do! Could you guess how much popularity would gain last.fm if they do it? :)
But it seems they forgot the promising social music revolution of the early years and now they just embraced the old-style business model :(
