What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
Start from the start: "Why Don't You Eat Carrots?" The guitarist from my first metal band I was in actually recommended it, since I liked Amon Duul II so much at the time. The krautrock obsession became full blown at that point.

Jesus, too hard to say. Lately it's been Monster Movie, but I keep going back to Future Days. So I'll say, for consistency, Future Days.

What is a good memory you have involving the music of 10?
I'm sad that I'm struggling with this one, I guess all I can come up with is that I asked my wife to get me "Just Another Band from LA" from a local hippie shop on vinyl for my birthday, since I saw they had it for like 30 bucks. "What do you want for your birthday?" "Just grab me that Zappa album I've almost bought several times." She came back with a gift card and said that it sold, but I could go shopping there with the gift card. I found it, since the title makes no mention of Zappa, she didn't know it was the right one. I was excited, I thought it sold. Boring story, I listen to them a lot, but have no stories to go with it.

Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
Loneliness. Residents don't do depressing often, but when they do, wow.

What is your favorite lyric that 2 has sung?
"She is living in and out of tune." People give Damo too much credit for his stoned nonsense lyrics, but that line is especially fantastic. I love Can, but the lyrics rarely get to me.

A Different Kind of Whore.

How did you get into 5?
I like this question, I was going with "I don't know" for a bit, but now I remember! Chrome and Helios Creed were both on a comp "Space Box: 1970s & Beyond." I don't listen to them as much anymore, but I first got into them when I was first starting Last.fm, so they remain pretty high on the charts.

What was the first song you heard by 1?
This might be consistent with the "I don't know" answer, there was a period of time where I was taking in more music then I was listening to. I discovered the RIO movement and got a few Frith related jams in the mix. I can tell you, I remember when the obsession began: I was listening to Cheap at Half the Price on the way home from a friend's house. Middle of a blizzard, I had it cranked, I got locked into "Same Old Me" hard and all of a sudden, it all made sense....

I should have looked at these questions before taking the survey, they kind of suck, I mean, you could just look at my top track from Lars and assume it's my choice: And you'd be WRONG, it's Vill Du Höra Mer, for sure.

Charles Gocher passed away before I got into them, as is the case with most of the bands I loved. I was born too late and/or got into good music too late.

What is a good memory you have involving 2?
So many instances where bad days turned to good as I get sucked into a trance. I've had completely sober spiritual type moments set to Can. I remember listening to You Doo Right one time, rattling the walls at my old shitty apartment, feeling this... tightness in my chest, but in a good way and having tears stream out, not of sadness, not quite joy, like some unexplained emotion that fascinated me. The song wasn't new to me, it was just really hitting me hard that day. There have also been so not so sober fond memories.

Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
Yeesh, kind of a stretch, I guess "American Life." Primus isn't all that sad.

No amazing story here, they are just one of the bigger names in prog rock/jazz fusion. During my King Crimson obsessed period, I hunted down more prog, stumbled upon them.

I liked it when they strayed from the grindcore side, Eye's vocals didn't do it for me. I still prefer it when they stretch their songs out a bit, such great improvisers in the band, why not let them improvise?

Probably longer than I can remember, I still remember my dad singing "Stinkfoot" when I was a kid. I appreciated Zappa's goofiness early on, but when I became a musician, I started appreciating Zappa on all sort of levels.

I'm not 100% sure of Genesis in general, he/she is a bit too pretentious for me... but I find that fascinating for some reason. The music is hit or miss too.

I guess where I got my username, the track "I Am Damo Suzuki." It's how I got into the band, I thought "Any band that makes a Can reference has to be decent."

Hmm, they really aren't about individual stand out members, more an overall sound. I guess Zappi... his drumming style is simple, repetitious, but never boring.

The finnish band, sometimes I think the songs would be better without vocals, it mostly adds a comical effect, which is sometimes meh. Circle the jazz group, everyone seems to front that band, and they are all fantastic.

Don't have a 21... nearest would be Pharaoh Overlord, don't think they are a videos kind of band.

Back in the day, sure. I'm positive it would be artsy fartsy and "shocking." I'd probably roll my eyes a few times, but it would be interesting no doubt.

When I started playing bass, I went on the hunt for bands that "rocked" and displayed a proficiency in a knowledge of music. King Crimson ruled my life for a solid year back in like 2004... 5... I don't know.

I only have Joy of a Toy, but that whole album is a feel good experience. One of the few albums I like that I would describe primarily as joyous.

Diverse! Everything from Dub, Hip Hop, Punk... Various Eastern influences. Bill Laswell is notorious for being all over the board, to hard to classify in one genre.

I've always been interested in the roots of things, they were labeled the first Industrial band, I checked them out and ended up liking them better than most bands with that label.

I think most Chrome lyrics are pretty bad... well, I guess I just don't pay attention to them. "Across the winds of time, from the gifts of sight, Wings are Born in the Night."

Not really, other than the fact that Rain Dogs is basically the only album my wife and I completely agree upon.

The way they make repetition fascinating, they got me into minimalism in general. They are everything that is good about psychedelic music.
