Beschouwing: 2011 was een matig muziekjaar, met moeite zijn er twintig platen gekomen die het waard waren om in de top 20 te komen, nog net iets er overheen door op het einde nog een aantal zeer boeiende releases. Vooral vielen een aantal grote releases toch tegen (oa Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, Bon Iver). Alleen Tom Waits en PJ Harvey brachten wat ik van te voren verwacht had. De nummer 1 Oranssi Pazuzu is wel een beetje uit het niets gekomen maar biedt één van de boeiendste nieuwe kijken op black metal. Blut Aus Nord heeft dit ook gedaan, maar is vooral een perfectionering van het geluid wat ze al op the work which transforms god lieten horen maar overtrof m’n verwachtingen. Dit is ook voor White Hills en Bong. Verder zijn het vooral veel artiesten die ik dit jaar voor het eerst heb geluisterd. Hopelijk wordt 2012 een stuk boeiender….

Waarschijnlijk is het nu al bijna cliché maar de strijd voor de nummer 1 plaats ging tussen The National en Arcade Fire, met op enige afstand nog Agalloch en Deathspell. Over 2010 als muziekjaar moet ik zeggen dat ik tevreden ben, 33 platen die in mijn top 20 hadden gekund is geen slechte oogst maar vooral het feit dat de nummers 1 en 2 zo overtuigend waren was eigenlijk alleen in 2007 met In Rainbows als nummer 1. Verder waren van de 130 cd's die ik meetel er maar vijf CD’s die ik echt vervelend vond, vooral de nummer 130 heeft wel een bizar slechte plaat afgeleverd waarvan ik verwacht dat het beste wat ik er over kan zeggen is dat ze hun debuut hebben overtroffen (wat ik er van ken dan in ieder geval). Verder moet ik nog even kwijt dat de tegenvaller van het jaar de titelloze plaat van Interpol was, maar gelukkig stonden daar een hoop verassingen tegenover zoals Planning For Burial en An Autumn For Crippled Children en waren de nieuwe Swans en Electric Wizard ook zeer sterke platen.

Voor 2011 zijn mijn verwachtingen hoog gespannen: zo komen de winnaars van de vorige jaren: Cynic, Radiohead en (waarschijnlijk) Greymachine met een nieuwe plaat. Verder komen toch boeiende bands als Iron & Wine, The Decemberists en Fleet Foxes met nieuw materiaal. Voor Roadburn nog eens een nieuwe Rammesses en Weedeater.

Dat was het voor 2010, hasta la vista baby!

Lieve Brace,

Zoals je weet stal je m’n hart met je slicke danspasjes, zoals jij bewoog, ik voelde die verleiding. O hoe was ik in de wolken toen bleek dat de liefde wederzijds was. Maar zoals elke vurige liefde vol van passie en verlangens bekoelde ook deze. Je probeerde het wel, je bezong onze liefde zoals je altijd deed. Maar het kon ons niet redden, de laatste tijd hoor ik zo weinig van je, alsof je niet meer om me geeft. Je hult je in een zwijgen die ik je niet kan doen verbreken.
Lieverd ik hoop niet dat je al te boos zal zijn, maar ik heb een ander. Het ging zo niet langer, ik weet ‘t, hij is lang niet zo cool als jij bent, maar hij weet mijn hart te raken. Zoals hij die prachtige poëzie over me uitstort, dat kan ik niet weerstaan.

M’n hart klopt sneller dan ooit te voren, weet dat hij je nooit zal vervangen want zoals jij en je matties danste in jullie ninjapakjes die avond dat onze liefde onstond zal altijd een deel van me zijn, maar ik ben nu met Gio en dat zul je moeten accepteren.
Hopelijk kunnen we vrienden blijven.
