It's almost been a year... oops...

Here's a new song of the week, finally replacing the old one from last year's September:

Swingin' Utters - Kick it Over

The song is a highlight on the new album "Here, Under Protest". It's a Re-Volts cover, second, third or whatever band of Swingin' Utters members Jack Dalrymple and Spike Slawson. The tune is so catchy, it's running back and forth in my player.

It's another "week". It's another song. The Song of the Week!

This time:

Street Dogs - 10 Wood rd.

Awesome song by (sometimes) Celtic Folk (and more often) punk band Street Dogs. It starts quiet and with much emotion and with quite a few Irish folk elements. After one and a half minute into the track, the pace increases, et voilá: a very catchy punk rock song. It's their best song from their new selftitled album. You should check it out.

Yay, I'm back with the song of the week. Weird to call it "...of the week" when it's been a couple of months since I last posted something. Ah, well...

Here's the new one. And this time it's a song from German punk rock band BRDigung and it's from their new LP "Tot aber lebendig":

BRDigung play fast Punk Rock with elements of Metal and Rock and German lyrics. Geld regiert die Welt is a political song critical towards society. It's a great band with a great new album, so you should check it out.

Fragt man mich nach geilen deutschen Punk Bands, fallen einige Namen, die harten Punk mit intelligenten Texten spielen. Dazu gehören auch und ganz besonders: Pascow. Und da meine Bands der Stunde immer gute Deutschpunk Bands sind, die in die oben genannte Kategorie fallen, darf ich euch diese Band heute präsentieren. Solltet ihr sie noch nicht kennen, wird es Zeit, dass ihr dies nachholt.

Wer in ordentlicher Qualität einmal in die Band reinhören will, kann das auf ihrer Webseite tun: http://www.pascow.de. Dort gibt es das Album Schief gescheitelt, schlecht rasiert kostenlos zum Download. Es ist eine Art Sampler Album mit Songs von all ihren bisherigen Erscheinungen und bietet so einen guten Überblick.

Yes, I've recently watched the movie High Fidelity again. It's an awesome movie. I mean, what's not to like? It's a movie about music, it's a movie with a great cast, it's a movie with Jack Black, it's a movie that mentions the Stiff Little Fingers and ridicules people who don't know them and think that they are Green Day. And most importantly: It's got lists!

Top 5 lists to be precisely. But what I've learned so far in my life is that you can't just put 5 things in a top list and say, "Basta, that's it!" 5 is just not enough. And as I'm a fucking freak with nothing much to do, I took the idea from the movie and made a Top 15 list of number 1 tracks. (As I almost exclusively got CDs, the "side 1" part does not apply in my case).

If you are reminded of Flogging Molly while you are listening to the following song, you don't have to call yourself a keen observer of the Folk Punk because the similiarities are pretty obvious:

The Bloody Irish Boys - Drunk Tonight

As my love for Irish Folk music, and especially it's merger with Punk Rock was revived by the Blood And Whiskey show in February, The Bloody Irish Boys have been one of the bands that came to my attention again. That's why their song Drunk Tonight from their 2005 release Drunk Rock now has become the song of the week. A wonderful Folk Punk song by a group that describes itself as "a drinking group with a music problem". And that's basically what the song is about.

As I saw them live at the weekend and this one song got stuck in my head since then although I've known it for years now, the new song of the week is:

Asta Kask – Psykiskt instabil

Awesome song, very powerful and with great lyrics.
It was one of the best songs at the concert which was awesome, too. They played a lot of their old stuff. I hope I'll see them again in the future.

Best Album 2009. Probably the best Propagandhi since How To Clean Everything.

2. Dead to Me – African Elephants
A great and very catchy album. Even without Jack Dalyrmple.

3. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – Pin Points and Gin Joints
They're back!

4. Raised Fist – Veil Of Ignorance
The best hardcore punk band with their best album so far.

5. Strike Anywhere – Iron Front
Great melodic hardcore album.

Song of the week IV

OMG, they are back! And they are better than ever, if this is even possible. This is at least the assumption I can make from the songs of the new album I've already listened to. I am of course talking about The Mighty Mighty Bosstones their new album Pin Points & Gin Joints. And of course one of the new songs is the new Song of the Week:

I haven't been able yet to get my hands on a copy of the album, but I am really eager to put it in and listen to the music because from what I've listened to already, it can only be great. It's a shame that I only have the first two of their albums. But I think that that'll change next year :)

Band der Stunde I

Derzeit höre ich eine deutsche Band ganz besonders gerne: Bitume. Obwohl sie schon seit 2007 ihre Single "Ein schöner Tag am Hafen" draußen haben, welche sie umsonst zum Download angeboten hatten, versäumte ich es bisher wirklich in die Single reinzuhören, obwohl ich natürlich Alben wie k.o.k.a.i.d.o und ? Wahlwiederholung ? hinter mir im Regal stehen habe und sie häufig höre. Vor zwei Wochen habe ich dann endlich einmal richtig hineingehört und sieh an: Richtig geiles Teil.

1. Ein schöner Tag am Hafen
2. Nur die im Licht
3. Nicht einmal 20m

Ein Song besser als der andere. Besonders der letzte Song Nicht einmal 20m hat es mir angetan.

Auch andere Songs der Band gehen richtig gut ab. Dabei hört man keinen Deutschpunk mit öden Parolen, sondern intelligenten Texten mit guten Melodien.
