Mini-review EXIT Fest 2009

Novi Sad, Serbia, Thu 9 Jul – EXIT Festival 09

How can I sum it up best... Lots of friendly people from all around the world, cheap alcohol, tons of marijuana (as in omnipresent, from dusk to dawn), ecstasy, beautiful and fun girls, great music and crystal clear sound, live music from all kinds of genres playing all at the same time, scattered around 15 stages located in a beautiful medieval setting.
The city itself is quite nice and clean, and at least during the festival it was filled with a youthful feeling that is quite hard to come by in other places. The audience was ok during most concerts, even though annoyingly inactive (by Romanian standards) at some great bands like Arctic Monkeys, Manic Street Preachers and so on, it really redeemed itself at more "aggressive" artists like The Prodigy, KoЯn and similar, where you could have the pleasure to witness a dedicated mass of people jumping around, reciting lyrics, feeling great and creating an awesome atmosphere. Also, the electronic dance stage is I think one of the best in Europe, with DJs like Richie Hawtin, Sasha & John Digweed and so on giving quite flawless performances that kept me (and mostly everyone) dancing even though it was heavy raining at a cold 5 AM one day, so I ended up dry again long before the performance was over.

All in all, great gig, not too far (the GPS updated with the latest maps performed great this time :P) and a new recurring event to attend each year in my calendar.

Romania, Bucuresti, Romexpo, Wed 1 Jul – B'estfest 2009

Mai rar am avut placerea de asa o super oferta, Patrice + White Lies + The Killers la doar 30 de euro.
Organizarea a fost standard, nu aveam pretentii mari in Romania dar a avut sonorizarea buna si efectele vizuale au fost placute.
Patrice a inceput concertul strong, cel mai bun warmup posibil (a animat multimea cu o usurinta totala), a adaugat din partea casei si un dans al ploii care a adus o furtuna in toata firea sa se potriveasca melodiei Soulstorm. Din pacate asta i-a speriat pe organizatori care l-au taiat mai devreme decat as fi vrut (cred ca l-au surprins si pe el). White Lies au fost perfectionisti pe scena, fiecare piesa a sunat foarte bine, ca la carte. Au avut parte si de un numar de fani straini care au ridicat atmosfera in primele randuri. The Killers au fost super fun, show total si o atmosfera destul de dreamy, ajutati si de finalizarea ploii care deja mi se parea ca era un dus de apa calda de la dans. Fiecare melodie a fost de calitate, cred ca nu ma saturam daca mai stateau si cinci ore. Oricum au stat destul de mult, in jur de 17 melodii, ramane sa-i mai prind la alte concerte similare daca este. Per total un concert memorabil, care a meritat banii cu varf si indesat, pus o ploaie care a fost cireasa de pe tort (un pic prea lunga pe alocuri dar fun).
