New 7" featuring Daniel Johnston

The John Dear Mowing Club is about to release a new 7" featuring a song with Daniel Johnston, recorded at Daniel's house in Texas! The song is called 'Devils'.

The 7" comes with a screenprint called '11 demons dancing' that illustrates the song on the 7". The artwork is created by Melle, the frontman of the John Dear Mowing Club.

John Dear Mowing Club is the band that regularly supports Daniel Johnston on his European tours.

The 7" and the screenprint come in a limited edition of 300 (signed and numbered) and can be pre-ordered on the website of the band:

Fri 23 Nov – Crossing Border (Fri 23 Nov)

The concert by The New Pornographers must have been the most disappointing show I've seen this year. Extremely uninspiring and, I'm sorry to say, boring. Even more disappointing than the Neko Case show earlier this year. Their albums are still great though.

The best performance of the evening was by Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub. Especially his rendering of It's All In My Mind was amazing.

Thu 1 Nov – Jim White + Jon Auer

It was truly amazing to see Jon Auer play Burn & Shine and Coming Right Along by himself. I never was a sucker for Burn & Shine, but having it heard the way it was supposed to be, changed everything. That's a damn good song! It was bit sad to see him hang out by himself afterwards. He looked very lonely. I would have loved to chat with him, but had no idea what to say.

Jim White was a bit too slick for me. He did good with the ladies though.

Leon Redbone at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn, IL

Wed 17 Jan – Leon Redbone
After missing out on our first gig due to some jet lag issues, we decided to take an extremely long trainride to Berwyn, IL to see Leon Redbone at Fitzgerald's. Nearly frozen, we arrived at the venue, only to find out the night was sold out. Reluctant to go back outside, we were offered a more than remarkable deal by the owner of the place: we could go inside, sit at the bar with the stage just outside our line of sight and listen to the show. All this, for the regular price of $20. Well, who can say no to that? Apparently, the owner felt a bit sorry for us, so the first round of Coronas was on her. The show itself was a blend of Ragtime, Jazz, Country and Blues evergreens, only interrupted by some comedy here and there. The easy crowd loved every word he said and I have to say that the music sounded pretty good as well. The lack of vision, the rags and the wisecracks made the whole experience as if you're watching a silent Laurel and Hardy movie, without a screen. Very weird. After the show, when we were allowed to leave the blind spot, we got to hang out with some of staff. Eventually we were being taken care of until very (very!) late by Norah Utley (of Headache City) and here friends. I guess the trip has officially started by now.

Roadtrip Chicago - Austin, TX

I'll be enjoying an excellent roadtrip the coming two weeks, driving from Chicago to Austin, TX. Passing through Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas and hoping to see as much concerts as possible. Reviews will be posted up here, as long as the motels offer wifi connections.

Chicago

Saint Louis
Second event of the trip: a triple bill at the The Duck Room of Blueberry Hill. The show started about 90 minutes late, which made the whole deal a bit problematic for us, since we're still suffering from the jetlag. To make thing worse, the first band was a fairly painful experience. The Deserters were hard to watch and listen to. I would say, keep practicing, but loose the singer. The second band was made up of four nice guys, playing your average middle-of-the road tunes. The Transmitters are great for a wedding or livening up your mall, but not suitable for people fighting against their sleep. Unfortunately this meant that we had to miss the last band, Bunnygrunt. An awful shame, since the tunes on their myspace page sound very promising. The best music of the day would have to be the music played in the Scott Joplin house, which we visited earlier today. A must-visit for anyone visiting Saint Louis.

Nashville
First night in Nashville led us to Rootsnight at The Rutledge
with Ned Van Go. Genuine
southern roots motherfucking shit with such lovely lovesongs like God will fuck you up and Mommy Is A Racist while eating a home made bowl of chilli you just can't go wrong.
Spent the next day stralling up and down Broadway. John Shepherd, a true Nashville legend, and Chris Casello were playing at Robert's Western World. Higly entertaining.

Hier en daar druppelen wat namen binnen van artiesten die op Blue Highways 2007 optreden. De eerste die ik gevonden heb zijn in ieder geval Diana Jones, Stephen Simmons en Po' Girl. Zodar er meer artiesten bekend zijn kunnen deze worden toegevoegd aan het forum.
