ATARI TEENAGE RIOT TO HEADLINE ARTROCKER PRESENTS THE ENERGY SESSIONS

German legends, and pioneers of the digital hardcore sound, Atari Teenage Riot will be playing their first UK show of 2012 at a special Energy Sessions hosted by Artrocker, at The Garage, on February 29th 2012.

The band’s ferocious mix of hardcore punk, pounding techno and hip-hop made them alternative legends in the nineties and, since their reunion in 2009, they have continued to rage against the machine. 2011 saw the release of “Is This Hyperreal?”, the band’s first full album of new material in twelve years, and a true return to form.

This landmark, intimate gig will be the first instalment of 2012’s Energy Sessions, and will be curated by music mag, Artrocker. Support comes from rising punk duo, run, WALK!.

Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner & Nico Muhly on 9 Apr 2012

Location: Barbican Centre

"An exceptional collaboration from perhaps the three most defining creative minds from today’s New York's inspirational music scene.

With his The Age of Adz album tour this year, Sufjan Stevens once again confirmed his status as an inimitable singer-songwriter genius; Bryce Dessner delivered sell-out performances with The National and Nico Muhly brought us the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning film The Reader as well as the recent Two Boys opera at ENO.

Presenting a unique song cycle for seven trombones and string quartet with vocals from Sufjan Stevens, the concert opens with a series of beguiling string quartets – most of them UK premieres; to continue with Stevens’ first live performance of the vocals for Bryce Dessner's brand new quartet 'Tenebrae', which he wrote for Kronos Quartet and performed at the Babrican's Reverberations weekend in May 2011.

Programme:

Nico Muhly Diacritical Marks
Sufjan Stevens Run rabbit run (selection)
Bryce Dessner Tenebrae
-
Muhly/Stevens/Dessner Song cycle for voice, string quartet and trombones (UK premiere)"

The Sinking of The Titanic on 15 Apr 2012

Location: Barbican Centre

A special concert for the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

Composed in 1969 and first recorded for Brian Eno’s Obscure label, Gavin Bryars’ The Sinking of the Titanic was inspired by reports that the ship’s string ensemble continued to play the hymn tune Autumn as the vessel sank in April 1912. Featuring projections of archival images curated by Bill Morrison and Laurie Olinder.

Sónar 2012 on 14 Jun 2012

Location: Fira de Barcelona - Gran Via

Sónar is the festival of advanced music and multimedia art that takes place at various venues in Barcelona (Spain) in the third week of June since 1994.

Sónar is a pioneering festival that is unique in terms of its format and content: a leading international benchmark thanks to a carefully assembled range of culture that combines entertainment with artistry, the avant garde and experimentation, featuring the most consolidated artists and trends in electronic music and their interactions and hybridisations with other genres.

In Barcelona, Sónar’s artistic programme is divided between the activities at Sónar by Day (concerts, showcases, professional zone, exhibition area), the keynote of which is the search for new talent, and the major shows at Sónar by Night, which presents the leading names on the international music landscape.

Each year, the festival also features a series of parallel events in cultural venues in the city such as the Auditori (the Barcelona main music Auditorium) or Cosmocaixa (Barcelona’s Science Museum), and occasional collaborations with other main city events (such as the Summer festival’s GREC in 2010 and 2011).

More than 8o thousand people enjoy a faultless programme which combined the major headliners in modern electronica with an extensive line-up of emerging artists and djs, trendsetters in today's music and new media art.

Sónar is also a meeting point for an audience eager for new ideas and specifically for professionals from all over the world from various sectors in the creative industries, who come together at SonarPro, the ideal place for doing business and making contacts.

The festival has regularly crossed Spanish frontiers since 2002 with events in various parts of the world, adapting the Sonar philosophy to unusual spaces and environments, and highlighting the most interesting aspects of Spanish talent and the scene in the city where it is held. To date, Sonar has travelled to London (an annual event since 2002), New York, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Frankfurt, Chicago and Tokyo, among many other destinations.
