So I just got home from work and and am going crazy poring over my charts with all the new retaggings. Some of them are great (yay, Hail To The Thief...except for There There) some of them not so much (what is going on with Sigur Ros' ( ) ?) and some of them just plain inaccurate (Joanna Newsom's 'Cosmia' vs the version she did for the Ys Street Band EP, I had them tagged separately and they're merged, same with C, C, C, C)...

The weirdest is all the song I have in my charts which when clicked on "no longer exist". What?

It's great for a lot of my old tags I didn't want to fix cos I had too many scrobbles, but I want to know exactly what's going on and if we can help participate in it (help correct it). Because I am a scrobbling nerd. And i can't seem to find any sort of PSA about it.

I'm gonna go ahead and link Merriweather Post Pavilion, because that way everyone will see this! (The hipster garabe I've ever heard.)

Editing to add: Okay, I found it in the FAQ, but it doesn't seem to apply to everything, and some of the process seems a bit skewed.

The Amazon.com Editorial Review on Wooody Woodpecker:

"The opening tune "Woody Woodpecker" piles so many chintzy and cheesy elements together it should be the most annoying thing ever. But it's expertly crafted and kaleidoscopic, and it will only annoy people who hate fun. You should take this song, or the entire album, with you on a first date with you and play it for that person. If they do not like it, you should never date them again, even if they are very rich."

Pitchfork on Water Curses:

"Water Curses seems unbound by genre or era, and serves as a nice reminder of how many risks Animal Collective is taking sonically these days.

01. How did you get into #31?

I was a big fan of Queer as Folk (the US version) once upon a time around four yeras ago, and I stayed up until ass o'clock in the morning watching this one storyline, and then Brian and Justin got back together to the tune of Lover's Spit and it was beautiful. And the next day I downloaded You Forgot It In People and I fell in love with Broken Social Scene.

02. What was the first song you ever heard by #22?

Needle in the Hay is the first Elliott Smith song I ever heard, I think. In The Royal Tenenbaums.

03. What's your favorite lyric by #41 ?
Well, Bear McCreary is the guy who writes the score for BSG. But one time he wrote an operatic-style song for the first season, and translated into English one of the lyrics means: "There's a toaster in your head and it wears high heels." AWESOME.

04. What is your favorite album by #49 ?

My favourite Nick Drake album? It should be simple but it's kinda hard. I love Pink Moon because it's freaking Pink Moon, but I have special connections with Five Leaves Left.

05. How many albums by #13 do you own?

I own two Thom Yorke albums, The Eraser, and Spitting Feathers, which is a Japanese import collection of all the b-sides from The Eraser.

06. What is your favorite song by #50 ?

I haven't listened to Led Zeppelin for a while, which is why they're on the bottom, but sometimes I think White Summer/Black Mountain Side from Coda is my favourite. Because it's such a nostalgic return to their roots, at a time when they had (d)evolved into a Journey-esque synth band.

07. Is there a song by #4 that makes you sad?

The easiest answer to this question is Battery In Your Leg, because it's the last song Graham Coxon played with Blur and it's the only song Damon Albarn wrote about the band, and it's probably the last Blur song ever, but Caramel might just be more sad, if you take away the context. Or 1992.

08. What is your least favorite song by #15 ?

Ooh, that's a difficult one. Sometimes some of the songs on Andrew Bird's Armchair Apocrypha piss me off, because they're so obviously derivative of his earlier work. I know Imitosis is a redux of I, and I love it for that, but in Heretics he completely rips off the line from A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left, Fake Palindromes-style. I don't know. Something about it bugs me, even though I like the lyrics.

09. What is your favorite song by #5

I always end up having to choose my favourite Animal Collective song with these memes. They always change! Plus, their albums are so diverse that one song sounds like it's written by a completely different band from another. I think We Tigers is probably one of the coolest moments in music, so I'll go with that.

10. Is there a song by #6 that makes you happy?

A lot of Devendra Banhart songs make me happy, like, Seahorse and Will Is My Friend.

11. What is your favorite album by #40 ?

Wow, I haven't listened to Tom McRae in ages. I guess Just Like Blood, that was the best produced and it has Mermaid Blues on it.

12. What is your favorite song by #10 ?

I'd have to say On a Neck, On a Spit because holy shit, Grizzly Bear! Also: you can't go home again/each time it's different, yeah, ouch.

13. What is a good memory you have involving #33 ?

I honestly can't think of a memory involving The Mountain Goats. Um, I probably sat around depressed listening to Get Lonely a lot, fall of 2006?

14. What is your favourite song by #37 ?

Ooh! I'd say Coney Island Shuffle is probably my favourite Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire song, because I could dance to that forever. However, I have to give second place if not a tie to Why?, because yeeeow!

15. Is there a song by #19 that makes you happy?

Many songs by The Arcade Fire make me happy. Like Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) and...yeah, most of them. They're so anthemic and built to jump around your room singing along to, and yet there's such sadness behind the lyrics.

16. How many times have you seen #24 live?

Oh my god, I WISH I'd seen Pulp. But I HAVE seen Jarvis Cocker, which was almost as awesome.

17. What is the first song you heard by #23 ?

Again, I always get asked the first song I heard by Nickel Creek and I can never remember. But it's probably...OH! It's totally The Lighthouse's Tale! I've gotten this wrong on all other surveys, oops. I had totally forgotten.

18. What is your favorite album by #11 ?

Always and forever, my favourite The White Stripes album is The White Stripes. There's something about it that's so raw and perfect. Which is not to say that I haven't loved their evolution as a band, I just...keep coming back to the first one.

19. Who is your favorite member of #1 ?

They always ask me this one too, and I still can't decide my favourite Radiohead member. Oh well.

20. How many times have you seen #14 live?

I've seen Beirut once, though I've tried unsuccessfully many other times. I'm just gonna say, it helps when your friend's sister is the band's violinist.

21. What is a good memory you have involving #45 ?

Nothing specific, but I associate Elbow with the end of my third year of university.

22. What is your favorite song by #16 ?

Always end up with the same questions. Right now, my favourite Portishead song is The Rip. Mostly because Radiohead have been soundchecking it a lot and Thom and Jonny recorded a cover. Also, it's one of their prettiest songs ever.

23. What is the first song you heard by #47 ?

Probably When The Lights Go Out as it is the first on Rubber Factory, but then again Set Me Free is in School Of Rock which I saw before that The Black Keys album came out. I didn't really notice the song, though.

24. What is your favorite album by #3 ?

Greetings From Michigan: The Great Lake State, because it is the most coherent, diverse, and flowing-start-to-finish of Sufjan Stevens' albums.

25. What is your favourite song by #18 ?

Oooh, I'd say my favourite Supergrass song is Mary. Just, overall fun.

26. What is the first song you heard by #38 ?

Skakka, cos it's the first on AnimaminA, which I bought after feeling guilty that I got to my first Sigur Rós show late and missed Amina open.

27. What is your favourite lyric that #21 has sung?

Tom Waits singing Day After Tomorrow is one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. It's the best anti-war song ever.

"I close my eyes/Every night/And I dream that I can hold you/They fill us full of lies/Everyone buys/About what it means to be a soldier/I still don't know how I'm supposed to feel/About all the blood that's been spilled/Look out on the street/Get me back home/On the day after tomorrow."

28. What is your favourite song by #2 ?

Viðrar vel til loftárása. I can't even describe it. It is above music. I've seen it live three times, and each time Sigur Rós make me stop breathing for a bit.

29. What is the first song you heard by #32 ?

It's got to be Loser, when it was on the radio alllll the time. I still love that song, though. I wonder if Beck does.

30. What is your favorite song by #8 ?

100 Knives is one of the simplest things that Mirah has done, but it's just perfect.

31. How many times have you seen #17 live?

Yes, once. Finally. It was last summer, at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, more commonly referred to as THE WORST VENUE EVER (UNLESS YOU FORK OUT OVER $100), but even that couldn't bring Björk down.

32. Is there a song by #44 that makes you happy?

With The Kills, it's more of a sassy-happy, but I guess M.E.X.I.C.O. or No Wow/Telephone Radio Germany.

33. What is your favorite album by #12 ?

Asking someone's favourite album by The Beatles is like asking your favourite chapter of the Bible. If I was religious. But anyway, I guess The White Album or Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band?

34. What is the worst song by #29 ?

Oh man, I couldn't tell you what the worst Belle and Sebastian song is. They're all adorable!

35. What was the first song you heard by #34 ?

the lioness, because it was recommended to me by a friend. Wow, that song's bleak. But it hooked me on Songs: Ohia!

36. What is your favorite album by #42 ?

Well, unfortunately that is Jimi Hendrix and not The Jimi Hendrix so it's just my random solo stuff of his, and there aren't really albums. Live at Woodstock I guess?

37. How many times have you seen #39 live?

Well, I've seen Animal Collective twice, and the second time Panda Bear performed Comfy In Nautica, does that count?

38. What is your favorite album by #36 ?

Haven't listened to Rilo Kiley in ages, but I guess I'd say Take Offs and Landings.

39. What is the first song you heard by #28 ?

Melody Day, cos it's the first on Caribou's Andorra.

40. What is your favourite album by #7?

The Tain, because The Decemberists actually wrote an 18 minute, 5 part song about the Cattle Raid of Cooley. And it's amazing.

Wow, this survey is a tribute to how bored/lazy I am right now.

30 questions about your top 30!

1. How did you get into 29?
Belle and Sebastian. It's weird, I have this memory of hearing about them when I was like, anywhere from 10-13 (1996-1999) and being like, "Belle and Sebastian, what are they some kind of Disney group?" Other than that I don't remember how I got into them.

2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Elliott Smith. Probably Needle in the Hay, when it was in The Royal Tenenbaums. That scene is just perfect.

3. How many albums by 13 do you own?
Thom Yorke. 2, actually. I have The Eraser and Spitting Feathers, which is the import EP collection of all of the b-sides off the Eraser.

4. What is your favorite song by 5?
Animal Collective? I hate you. I don't want to choose. Sometimes it's Moo Rah Rah Rain, sometimes it's Peacebone, sometimes it's Winters Love, sometimes We Tigers, I don't know okay?

5. What is your favorite song by 15?
Portishead. Right now? Definitely The Rip. That's helped a little by the fact that Radiohead's been soundchecking it a lot and Thom & Jonny recorded a studio cover. Either way, it's one of the most beautiful things Portishead has written.

6. Is there a song by 6 that makes you happy?
Devendra Banhart? Oh yes. A lot of his songs make me happy. Carmensita just makes me think of my childhood summers by the beach and sitting by my pool with the barbecue fired up and everyone's drinking Arizona Iced Tea. The Beatles makes me laugh because it is ridiculously silly. A lot of his songs make me happy because they feel like home. Will Is My Friend/Will sings like George/coming back to California...

7. What is your favorite song by 10?
The White Stripes. As recorded, probably I Fought Piranhas. Other songs I love mostly for their live versions, but there is nothing that beats the closing track of their debut eponymous album.

8. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
Broken Social Scene. What comes to mind first is seeing them for free on Coney Island for this year's Siren Music Festival. Everyone was just so happy to be there, including the band.

9. Is there a song by 19 that makes you happy?
Supergrass. Um, yes. How about all of them?

10. How many times have you seen 26 live?
The Jimi Hendrix Experience. That's a funny joke.

11. What is the first song you heard by 23?
Nickel Creek. Oh wow, I can't even remember. Maybe Green And Gray?

12. What is your favorite album by 11?
Grizzly Bear. I love them all, but Yellow House is sheer perfection from beginning to end.

13. Who is your favorite member of 1?
Radiohead. That is not a question I am prepared to answer. Thom is amazing and adorable and wears tight red trousers and dances a lot and is a tormented insomniac genius. Jonny is probably even more of a genius and is one of the most beautiful guys in the universe. And he wrote the best score for a film, ever. Ed is the tallest man alive and I would go pubcrawling with him. Colin is the coolest man alive and knows all the bands you wish you were into. And Phil? Well, Phil can play the drum part for Myxomatosis (Judge, Jury & Executioner). That should be enough.

14. Have you ever seen 14 live?
Andrew Bird. Yes, in March 2007. He mostly played songs from Armchair Apocrypha, which wasn't out yet but I was still blown away. Also, he really does have a nervous tic motion of the head to the left.

15. What is a good memory involving 27?
Hot Chip. Hah, maybe going to a club in London where the guys from The Mighty Boosh were doing a DJ set, and them spinning Over and Over and me dancing my ass off just a few feet from them. Or alternately seeing Hot Chip live this spring, that was bonkers.

16. What is your favorite song by 16?
Björk. I think it's got to be Unravel. It's one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

17. What is your favorite album by 18?
The Arcade Fire. Oh, I don't know. Maybe Funeral, because that was MY album, you know?

18. What is your favorite song by 21?
Tom Waits. Ooh, that's a hard question. I almost want to say The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me), but another part wants to say The Day After Tomorrow because ouch, that song hurts. Chocolate Jesus was one of my first favourites, and Jockey Full of Bourbon was possibly the first song I heard of his (in "Down By Law') and it still rules. I don't know! He has such a huge back catalogue. Gigantic.

19. What is the first song you heard by 25?
David Bowie. Oh for fuck's sake, I haven't the faintest clue.

20. What is your favorite album by 2?
Sigur Rós. I think it's got to be Ágætis byrjun, because it's the most diverse and yet flows perfectly from start to finish.

21. What is your favorite song by 3?
Sufjan Stevens. Sister. My scrobbles say Redford (For Yia-Yia & Pappou), but that's because when I get depressed I'll just listen to it on repeat forever. But Sister is just epic, in the middle of one of his simplest albums.

22. What is your favorite song by 8?
Mirah. I always like to say The Dogs of B.A., but there's something about 100 Knives that hasn't been achieved by any other song by anybody ever.

23. How many times have you seen 17 live?
Beirut. Hah, once. I've tried and failed many other times, but then they did an impromptu show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg this summer and my friend whose sister is the violinist got me on the guest list and IT WAS AMAZING.

24. What is the worst song by 12?
The Beatles. Um, probably Obla-Di Obla-Da? Only because I wrote my own version of it on my keyboard when I was like, 8. And it was better.

25. What was the first song you heard by 28?
Caribou. Probably Melody Day, cos it's the first on Andorra.

26. What is your favorite album by 7?
The Decemberists. The Tain, always and forever. I don't care that it's an EP, it was created specifically for me.

27. What is your favorite song by 24?
Pulp. Oh, do I want to be a cliche and say Common People? I don't want to be. Maybe Lipgloss or This Is Hardcore. Oh, I don't know. F.E.E.L.I.N.G.C.A.L.L.E.D.L.O.V.E.?

28. Is there a song by 9 that makes you happy?
Joanna Newsom. Ooh. A lot of them make me happy, but either sad-happy or nostalgic-happy. Maybe Peach, Plum, Pear?

29. What is your favorite album by 4?
Blur. Oh, that's mean. I don't know. 13? Modern Life Is Rubbish? ALL OF THEM?

30. How many albums do you own by 20?
Beach House. I um, don't own any. But I asked for both LPs for my birthday! And I almost bought Devotion on vinyl yesterday.

I had a spontaneous post dissecting the ins and outs of why I think this would be the perfect lineup for the new Radiohead album [which I would love titled 'Down Is The New Up', perhaps?], and then I accidentally closed the tab. Fuck. My main theory was that it would be fucking brilliant to open the album with Spooks into Down Is The New Up. Luckily I had the tracklist basically committed to memory. This post is now much less detailed. Anyway, discuss and critique.

Spooks
Down Is The New Up
Arpeggi
Nude
Videotape
15 Step
Bodysnatchers
4 Minute Warning
Go Slowly
Bangers 'N' Mash
All I Need
House Of Cards
Where Bluebirds Fly*

*New recording of Where Bluebirds Fly with Lubna Salame and the Nazareth Orchestra -- look for the version Thom & Jonny did with them at Ether in 2004.

That whole last part is my idea, but think about it -- how awesome would it be for them to close it off with House of Cards, and everything's happy-go-lucky at a beach bonfire...and then perhaps there are a few seconds of silence and we're thrown back into eerie with Where Bluebirds Fly?

[Oh, and I've never heard Open Pick and I heard Burn The Witch is dead in the water, so I took them out of the game.]

Like I said. Discuss and critique.

I think someone messed up on this whole 'Soundtrack To Your Life' meme that's been going around. Because it started out as a selection of appropriate songs, and now it's some sort of shuffle game. And it doesn't really have any significance anymore.

For example, while shuffling along I came across Za. For my 'Death Scene'. After I stopped laughing, though, I started thinking about it, and how cool it would be were a convincing Death Scene with Za playing in the background.

Face, such a beautiful face
But time waits for no one
So why don't we get it on, yeah!

It'd have to be a really humourous death scene in a dark comedy, or something. I almost want to see this, now.

Name your top ten artists:
1. Radiohead
2. Sigur Rós
3. Sufjan Stevens
4. Blur
5. The Decemberists
6. Mirah
7. The Beatles
8. Nickel Creek
9. The White Stripes
10. Elliott Smith

How many times have you listened to number one?
1831, as of last week. But that's just Last.fm's count.

Is this your favorite band?
Pretty much.

What got you into number one?
Um, Creep was on the radio a lot back in the early 90s.

Why the hell have you listened to that so much?
Listened to what?

Favorite songs of number one:
I dunno, I'm loving their new stuff right now, like Bangers'n'mash.

Something you think you’d thoroughly enjoy doing with the band?
Talking politics? Having insomnia? Drinking tea?

Favorite memory of the artist?
Prolly their concerts I've seen.

How many times listened to number two?
1526. Again, last.fm's count.

What got you into them?
Cameron Crowe used them in Vanilla Sky.

What makes you like them so much?
Their dance moves.

Favorite songs:
Right now I'm loving Nýja Lagið from the Svefn-g-englar single.

Favorite memory of artist?
First time I ever heard Glósóli, which was in concert the day before Takk...was released.

How many times have you listened to number three?
1374. According to Last.fm

Would you pay thirty dollars to see them in concert?
Um, my tickets for his show at Town Hall were more than $30, if I remember rightly.

Whose your favourite member?
I would say...the guy whose name is Sufjan.

Any fave songs/memories?
Discovering in person how pretty he is?

How many time listened to four?
1165. Says last.fm.

Would you go fishing with them?
OMG YES. Haha.

Any particular emotions run through ya when ya listen?
Blur has varied emotions to their songs. Battery In Your Leg makes me want to go on a road trip and find Graham Coxon, For Tomorrow makes me want to skip around London, This Is A Low makes me want to wear a big sweater and mope out the window. So, y'know.

What songs you like best?
A lot.

How many times have you listened to five?
964, by Last.fm time.

What’s so intriguing about them?
Colin Meloy's lyrics, and their theatricality.

Could you imagine them in a circus?
Totally. They would be the sideshow.

How many times for six?
776, which is prolly accurate for my computer, since I started listening to her only this year.

How many 3's in a <3333333 would you give them and why?
10 3s. If that's the most? Because Mirah's awesome.

How many times for 7?
648, but last.fm's number is not at all accurate seeing as I've listened to them throughout my entire life.

I hear 7 is a magical number, is this band magical?
Yes.

What's some of your favorite songs and what memories are attached to them?
Within You Without You. Every summer, I can't sleep, I listen to it.

How many times for eight?
601, not so accurately judged.

How long have you liked this artist?
Um, a few years? Full on since 2004-ish. I think.

What are some songs you like?
Scotch and Chocolate, Brand New Sidewalk, The Lighthouse's Tale.

Which member would you most enjoy a good square dance with?
Oh my god, Chris Thile would totally square dance with me. And I would love it.

Random fact you know about the band?
Chris Thile moved to the East Village last year?

Poor ten, how many times you listened to that?
523, which is false. Wait, what happened to number nine?

Why have this as number ten, where is the loveeee?
I don't know. I love Elliott Smith.

How long have you liked them?
Since, um, The Royal Tenenbaums came out? I think.

Likes/Dislikes of band?
Elliott Smith is brilliant and everyone should have his albums.

What are the poor artists from 11-20?
The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Supergrass
Rilo Kiley
Songs: Ohia
Beck
Tom McRae
Bear McCreary
Björk
Jimi Hendrix
Portishead
