This morning I watched "The Royal Tenenbaums" and (with the exception of "High Fidelity") it was the first time I immediately took note of the soundtrack. Sadly enough, I typically don't notice the music in movies until I've seen the film so many times that I can start focusing on other aspects without skipping a beat. Of course, Mark Mothersbaugh litters the listing, but they were so genial as to include the Velvet Underground, Nico, Elliott Smith, and Nick Drake. Totally great.

1)Help Me Rhonda - the Beach Boys
2)Take On Me - A-ha
3)Me and Julio Down by the School Yard - Paul Simon
4)Stephanie Says - the Velvet Underground
5)Miss You Like Crazy - Briskeby

In future news, this Tuesday a friend of mine and I are heading to Upper Darby's Tower Theatre to see Death Cab for Cutie, Ra Ra Riot, and the Cold War Kids!

This is the first Saturday in a couple of weeks that I don't have a proper concert to comment on, but last night I went with a couple of friends to the Digital Ferret record shop and randomly saw The Young Werewolves play a free show there.

It's been weeks since I've posted a Top Five from the same location, and this week is no exception. I'm currently in Los Angeles, though more specifically, at the airport waiting for my flight back to Philadelphia. I'm not particularly thrilled at the prospect of being on a packed flight, but I'm surprisingly happy to be returning to the east coast.

As previously mentioned, there was the Yelle concert this past Thursday at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. It's hard to believe that it was my first concert here is California, but yes, it's true. I do have to note that the concert scene here is extraordinarily different than the one back in Philly. Here there are no laid-back, plaid-clad open strangers. LA consists of guys in tank-tops wearing sunglasses (at night! In the dark theatre!) and girls in high high heels wearing metallics - all exclusive and awkward. Plus, I think people in LA are taller. But that's just a sweeping generalization. Regardless, Yelle was fantastic. She was so energetic and adorable, and the music was great. It was so worth the three-hour wait and sketchy surroundings.

Tonight is the Modest Mouse concert, and I'm super stoked. I've tried to see them two other times, and this is the first times I've managed to snag a tangible chance to go. My flight lands just before, but I should be able to make it. So excited!

Anyways. With no further ado:

1)Killing Time - Babel Fish
2)The Distance - CAKE
3)A CAUSE DES GARCONS - Yelle
4)Cellophane Eyes - Briskeby
5)Los Angeles - the Rosewood Thieves

To those who survived Friday the Thirteenth, Happy Valentine's Day! Doesn't seem a bit ominous that two such dates are so close together? It's like Saint Valentine's ultimate head's up. Regardless, I'm not writing about holidays and superstitions, especially since I'm not partaking much in either this year, so let's focus on this week's Top Five, shall we?:

1)you're the reason our kids are ugly - Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn
2)Lump Sum - Bon Iver*
3)Juicy - Notorious B.I.G.
4)<a title="M. I should probably mention that Madeleine and I are thinking of joining forces at Bryn Mawr to work on a music site and whatnot in some sort of attempt to make up for the Bi-Co's lack of a radio station. It's still in the idea-stage, so keep your legs together.

Until next week!

I also officially bought Modest Mouse tickets for the show on March 14th! SO EXCITED. They're one of my favorite bands, and the last time I was supposed to see them in concert (back in the Stone Age of 2006), they cancelled the show in order to work more on We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank.
