Man he recorded hundreds of songs, I don't even KNOW them all to pick out a worst one. I guess most of the drugged-up Vegas covers, and a good chunk of the cheesy movie songs. Which probably covers about 2/3 of all the songs he recorded. (If this sounds like a cooler full of haterade it's really not; it's just that my mom is an Elvis fan and I've been WAY overexposed to his music. He just became more of a cheap circus act than a musician after a certain point.)

People didn't seem to know what to do with it, so it stayed there all semester. It was great.

Songs that make me cry every time (but that I love anyway)

I am not usually an outwardly sentimental person. At least, not in front of other people. But there are some songs I absolutely cannot listen to without crying. Everyone has songs they hate for that reason ("The Christmas Shoes" being a classic example). But here are a few songs I think are absolutely beautiful and that I really love, but that still make me weep like a baby.

1. The Dixie Chicks - Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)

I originally heard a different version of this song, but I have no idea who the artist was, so the Dixie Chicks version will do. A few months ago a friend's little boy died at the age of 13. He had multiple severe disabilities, and I'd been working as a caregiver for him for just a few days before he passed away. Recently a local folk singer held a small benefit concert to help his family, and this was the last song they played. It's so sweet and beautiful, but for obvious reasons it also brings me to tears.

2. Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time

I can't entirely explain why this song makes me cry. I'd been seeing the video for years without really getting what it was about. (I'd even seen Cyndi in concert without the song making me sad.) When it finally clicked a few months ago, I just started crying and couldn't stop until the song was over. I adore this song, but ever since that one day when I realized how sad the video was, the song makes me cry too.

3. Queen - These Are the Days of Our Lives

This song is sad for a lot of complicated reasons. First off, the actual lyrics are from the perspective of someone near the end of their life, looking back on all the good times they had when they were young. While it's got a bittersweet tone to it and seems happy and relaxed, it's still sad because most of the person's life is gone. Then it's also sad for more specific reasons, because this was one of the last songs Queen released before Freddie Mercury died. He didn't write the song, but you can tell it was inspired by him. And in the video (which was filmed just a couple months before he died), he looked completely skeletal and ghostly. It's awful. It's a great song, but it's tough to listen to, and really tough to watch the video.

4. Various Artists - Winter Wonderland

This was my grandma's favorite song at Christmastime. After she passed away, I could technically still listen to it without crying, but I haven't been able to play it on the piano. It was always the song she asked me to play for her. I just can't bring myself to play it when she isn't there to listen.

5. Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway

I love this song, but it makes me sad thinking of all the times I've thought of moving far away from home. I just know I'm gonna have to leave one day, and this song is exactly how I'm going to feel about it.

6. The Beatles - I Will

This one is my mom's fault. I have a huge Beatles songbook for piano, and I was playing this song one day and my mom started crying. When I asked her why, she was like "This song is how I feel about you, if you ever need me to do anything for you I will". So now that song just makes me cry... not because I'm sad necessarily, but it just makes me really emotional.

I have some more but I'll save them for another time, I can't handle anymore sad right now!

My top 50 on this won't be as it appears on my front page, because I accidentally let a new age CD scrobble on repeat all night so it's full of artists I know nothing about :/

I was thinking the other day about how many CDs I used to have, and how much larger my collection would be if I had started taking care of it sooner. Granted, I got rid of some because I just didn't love them anymore, but most of them just died of neglect. So here is a little tribute to all the CDs that have been murdered at my grubby little hands, as well as the ones that are dying a slow death as we speak.

Gave away to a friend on a whim. I once spent an hour looking for it before I remembered I had done this. D'oh!

Severely injured after being left in my glove compartment. Why the hell would I leave two of my favorite CDs in the glove compartment? They're scratched to hell, but I refuse to let them go.

EDIT: ANATO has now been replaced with the swanky 30th anniversary CD/DVD edition. However, I still don't have the heart to get rid of my older version, 'cause it was also a special edition (the 1991 remaster) which has bonus tracks the newer one doesn't have. Special editions, as we will see below, are going to kill me.

Michael Jackson - Thriller
Whoops, guess who didn't learn their lesson? Left this one in the car too, after Halloween (of course). It got all wonky from the heat and takes like 800 tries to make it play.

EDIT: Also replaced, with the new 25th anniversary edition. However, it turns out the reason the older CD wouldn't play was because it was the 2001 special edition, which has this weird gold tint that my CD player does not like. The new version has the same shit and also doesn't play well, so I ended up burning it onto a plain CD-R *headdesk* But I'm a sucker for special editions, so I'm keeping both the 2001 and 2008 versions, as they have different bonus tracks. BONUS CONTENT I HATE YOU.

Weird Al Yankovic - Off The Deep End
Left this one in the BATHROOM and it got covered in toothpaste stains. Will I ever learn? Sources say "no".

Barenaked Ladies - Disc One: All Their Greatest Hits 1991-2001
Left this one on the FLOOR. It just keeps getting better!

This CD is in fine working condition, but it only has one song that doesn't give me a headache, and I already had that song before I bought it. Fail.

And there you have it. A (fairly) complete list of all the CDs I no longer have, and a few I really need to replace or get rid of. Now I'm off to go get my head checked because I can remember all this, but not what I ate for dinner last night.
