Allo Darlin' + Standard Fare + This Many Boyfriends + more at Queens Social Club, Sheffield on 24 Feb 2012

Location: Queens Social Club

**PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE. THIS SHOW HAS BEEN MOVED TO QUEENS SOCIAL CLUB**

Due to overwhelming public demand this show has been moved from Shakespeares to Queens Social Club. All original tickets are still valid.

Pull Yourself Together presents…

Allo Darlin’

Easily one of the best bands around over the past couple of years, Allo Darlin’ are coming back to Sheffield to play tracks from their forthcoming second album, Europe. Anyone who has seen the band before will know just what fun Allo Darlin’ are live, full of dancing, singing along and generally having a smashing time. Anyone who hasn’t seen them before - you’re in for a treat!

http://allodarlin.com/

Standard Fare

There’s always gonna come a time when we don’t know the answers - always gonna come a time when we should just go dancing. So come dancing. So come dancing with Standard Fare. They’ve got a new album out too, Out of Sight, Out of Town. Always a joy to watch live, with more of the dancing and singing along bits.

http://www.standardfare.co.uk/

This Many Boyfriends

Noisy pop songs - check. Championed by Steve Lamacq off the radio - check. Not twee or cutesy - check. This Many Boyfriends released one of the best singles of 2011, the fantastic Young Lovers Go Pop! on the fancy pants Angular Records, these guys are great. For lovers of shouting and fun.

http://www.thismanyboyfriends.com/

The Passing Fancy

Mr. Passing Fancy writes really nice pop songs about being in a good mood and stuff like that - but not in that sugarysugarycupcake way that sets your teeth on edge. Whimsical pop, which trips along very nicely on record, and involves a bit more dancing and shouty backing vocals live. Dead nice.

Momus + The Montgolfier Brothers at International Anthony Burgess Foundation, Manchester on 2 Mar 2012

Location: International Anthony Burgess Foundation

For our second outing at the Burgess Foundation, we’re proud to present the Manchester debut of Momus.

Tickets are available from Common (no booking fee), Piccadilly Records, Vinyl Exchange, Seetickets.com, WeGotTickets.com, Ticketline.co.uk, Ticketweb.co.uk and on 0871 220 0260.

Momus is the artist name of Nick Currie, a Scotsman currently living in Japan. For over twenty years he’s been releasing albums of weird and poignant songs in a dizzying array of styles on independent labels like 4AD, el and Creation. He is one of underground music’s most controversial and influential provocateurs: from his early days with the Happy Family in the 1980s through his digital troubadour incarnations of the 2000s, Currie has lent his style to Pulp, Beck, the Divine Comedy, and others while remaining fiercely political and uncompromising in his artistic vision.

‘Nick Currie’s musical career now looks like a long detour on his way to his destiny as discreetly subversive international Man Of Letters’ – Uncut

‘It’s a 21st century lounge music, which draws all manner of material into its studied insouciance: 1980s electronica (Sylvian & Sakamoto’s 1982 masterpiece Bamboo Music is referenced on Bubble Music); post-punk (the album includes a cover of Josef K‘s Adoration); Everything Stops For Tea-style pre-war skit-pop (as used on Is There Sex In Marriage?). The highlight is Datapanik, a sardonically tender meditation on how a computer crash now means the loss of irretrievable memory objects’ – Mark Fisher, The Wire

Momus also performs as ‘the unreliable tour guide‘, giving absurdist tours of museums around the world. He’s published three books, a novel told entirely through jokes and two books imagining parallel futures for Scotland and Japan. His live shows are vaudevillian and unmissable.

We’re excited to have the Montgolfier Brothers supporting. The trio, who are one of our favourite Manchester bands, will make an extremely rare live appearance – only their second in two years. Since 1997, Roger Quigley (aka At Swim Two Birds), Mark Tranmer (Gnac) and Otto Smart (The Otto Show) have released their own recordings as well as three Montgolfier Brothers albums: Seventeen Stars, The World Is Flat, and All My Bad Thoughts. In 1999 Alan McGee signed them to his Poptones label and has since said of them, ‘sometimes the best bands feel like a well-kept secret’. It’s true.

This show takes place at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, a charity that encourages and supports public and scholarly interest in all aspects of the life and work of Anthony Burgess, the late novelist (best known for A Clockwork Orange), poet, playwright, composer, linguist, translator and critic. The foundation, situated just off Oxford Road, features a fully licensed cafe-bar and an engine room, which will host this concert.

Emmy the Great at Trades Club, Hebden Bridge on 19 Mar 2012

Location: Trades Club

Emmy the Great (AKA Emma-Lee Moss) already has quite a history. She has performed as a member of the indie folk group Lightspeed Champion, acting as their vocalist for a brief period in 2007 alongside Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine, and collaborated with both Fatboy Slim and Tim Wheeler from Ash, on the ‘This is Christmas’ album. She is a mentor for The Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music – Strummerville and has worked with Jail Guitar Doors, Billy Bragg’s prison-based music charity.

“One of the boldest young writers in pop today.” The Guardian.

“Ambitious, thoughtful, outright feminist pop.” The Mirror.

End of the Road Festival on 31 Aug 2012

Location: Larmer Tree Gardens

Like a lot of festival goers we had always joked around saying "wouldn't it be nice to put on our own 'perfect' festival with our favourite line up". It was only after having been to a small and intimate festival in 2005 that Simon thought to himself that we can actually make this happen and put on our own quality festival. Simon teamed up with his friend Sofia, and the kind of festival they set out to create was one where:

You won't get all the over hyped bands headlining
Most bands play longer sets than usual
You can eat a range of quality food
You can drink a range of quality beers
The staff and security care about everyone and show respect
The crowd will be there for the MUSIC
We take pride in being an independent festival.
The idea with the End of the Road Festival was to organise an intimate festival with our favourite artists and to create a festival with a friendly and relaxed feel.

The Larmer Tree Gardens (North Dorset/Wiltshire borders, UK) is the perfect venue to create this kind of atmosphere - where music-loving, open minded and chilled out people get together in the beautiful countryside whilst parrots and peacocks wander around!

This is the kind of festival where the ENTIRE line-up is the headliner in itself!

End of the Road festival takes a lot of pride in all the 'little things' that make a great festival, such as good food (organic and local where possible), good beer, caring and well-mannered staff, good site decorations, hygiene etc.

We encourage band participation in all areas of the festival, and some acts will be invited to dj, present workshops and many other things besides. The festival has the kind of atmosphere which encourages collaboration and 'special' events - in previous years we've seen acts such as I'm from Barcelona, Ed Harcourt, Josh Ritter, Herman Dune, Frida Hyvonen and Darrren Hayman all playing surprise sets in and around the festival site, as well as a few unexpected collaborations (thank you Ryan Adams who picked up the drum sticks for Jolie Holland's set, and the Brakes/Seapower/Soft Parade boys).

As one of the festival organisers is Swedish, there will also be a slight Scandinavian touch to the festival with the old Viking game Kubb that all festival goers are welcome to try out, as well as a Scandinavian showcase of up and coming Nordic talent.
