So Reading 2010 has been and gone, and it was a corker. I was really pleased with the changing atmosphere this year, even if at times it seemed a little dull. Particularly favourites this year were blink, QOTSA, Weezer and Thrice. Saturday, for my tastes was quite mediocre, although I am glad I finally got to see Cancer Bats, and Arcade Fire were a lot more impressive than when I saw them last time.

On Guns N' Roses, there has already been a lot of coverage about what a prized arse hole Axl Rose was in delaying the set by 58 minutes, but I'm more intrigued about the performance itself. Having waited for close to an 1h 45mins for them to come on after Queens of the Stone Age, it's unsurprising my pants weren't knocked off by a new song despite the fireworks. Welcome To The Jungle however set a chill shuddering through my spine; and that set the pattern for the set. Solid, and at times, brilliant musicianship interspersed with awkward band interaction and far too many costume changes with Axl revealing a horrible wardrobe. It's a shame we didn't get to hear Paradise City, but Sweet Child O' Mine was pretty sweet. All in all, if the guitarist hadn't come out looking like Slash, complete with furry top hat and obligatory fag in mouth, I may have been more positive.

Anthems of the festival include QOTSA's Feel Good Hit Of The Summer, Blink's All The Small Things and Weezer's Buddy Holly.

So despite having to queue for nearly 4hrs to get in whilst it rained heavily, reducing our 24 packs to a crumbling mess, and a quieter, less enthusiastic atmosphere, Reading really impressed, and in the end I think it was better this year than Glastonbury.

So the ones in bold are the ones which I thought were great or pure, unedited totally awesome. Those starred were either shocking or very disappointing. It's a shame that there was so much on that I managed to miss, as well as the other stage running 30 mins earlier on Sunday, and I only stuck to the main stages this year, but I saw some great stuff.

The Gaslight Anthem (as well as with Bruce) were incredible, especially on The '59 Sound, but as usual (like The Who two years ago) it was Sunday's headliners that delivered the most spine chillingly amazing festival performance. All I can say is that won't be leaving me in a hurry. Particular highlights were the crowd singing along to Tender and Phil Daniels on Parklife.

Honourable mentions go to Regina Spektor, whose new stuff sounded great in the mid-day rain on Friday, White Lies' cover of Dancing In The Dark as well as there own set, The Virgins' Rich Girls, Kasabian on Fire and the sing along I started in the absence of Born In The U.S.A.

So as you can see, I am actually struggling to pin it down to a couple of moments, it was just so brilliant. Brothers Cider, it was still there, and it made the festival just that little bit more amazing, if that was possible.

I had a fantastic time again this year, as always, although i did find some of the music a little disappointing and the atmosphere a bit tense and negative at times. I also found i went long periods without finding bands i wanted to see, but the ones i did clashed for example Massive Attack (who i love) and the intriguing Jay-Z. However the weather was near perfect, any more sun and everyone would have started getting sun stroke, and my family, my mate James and many randomers made the festival incredibly enjoyable! A great way to start my summer after the stress of A-levels.

The more i look at the list of bands i saw, the more i think i wasn't very adventurous this year. And im still kicking myself at missing Squarepusher and Franz! I want i want i want to see both of them. Idiot. Oh well i still had a great time.

Last night was about as perfect as you could get, the setlist was incredible, the weather and venue just fantastic and the atmosphere was great, particularly when the tension was built up beforehand by the mysterious backing track.

I even enjoyed the journey to the gig, such were the high spirits of all my delightful friends, my besties. Having finished my a levels on the same day, it was a perfect way to celebrate as i saw one of my favourite bands who i had yet to see live!

Getting there at 4.30 did mean getting a very numb bum but we got relatively close to the front and enjoyed ourselves although i was disappointed by Bat for Lashes, not because of the quality of the sound, but more because i found her incredibly boring, not a patch on Regina Spektor! But while she crooned on, my friend party was complete as James turned up from work and the fun could begin.

While unfortunately the atmosphere seemed a bit dull to begin with, i think that was more to do with the gorgeously soothing sunshine, and the support band. Things really started to get moving when the roadies came on stage, including one who looked uncanningly like Thom Yorke!

Feverpitch amongst my friends and i was reached when Radiohead finally came on, opening up surprisingly with Recokoner. The opening bars were stunning, a moment i had been waiting for all my life and it finally happened, i was actually seeing Radiohead! However the feedback from the crowd was still a bit quiet, but reached its peak thus far when Lucky was played with many people (me included) belting out the words and the top of our lungs... Luke; you were flat mate!

Radiohead really stepped it up a gear with Myxomatosis and The National Anthem, especially due to the magical use of green and red 'tubular bells'. I was surprised to here Myxomatosis because its one of my favs on Hail to the Thief, yet i thought it would not necessarily be a crowd pleaser. At this point i felt apart from a bit more crowd feedback, it just couldn't get any better; but then it did when No Surprises was played. This track demonstrates the awesome sound quality of the gig, it was like "listening to Radiohead on record through the best sound system you've ever heard!" It was just perfect, and really got everyone singing along - it made me so so happy :)

So now I'm definitely on top of the world and i never want anyone to bring me down and that was maintained by one of my favourite tracks on Kid A Optimistic, and the harrowing Videotape. Videotape seemed to stun everyone into silence at this point and it was difficult for it to be picked up again, especially considering the crowd's nature. However i didn't really notice because another Kid A cracker, Everything In Its Right Place, with Thom in the centre of the stage, came out of the bag.

It's sad then that considering my love for Idioteque and Bodysnatchers that i seemed to miss them being played, i must have been in a different zone, although i have a vague memory of the intro riff of Bodysnatchers. When the band went off for a brief interval, i was gutted because it was about 10 (the time they went off the night before) and thought they were leaving without playing either Karma Police or Paranoid Android.

How wrong was i?! When they played these two tracks (along with 2+2=5), i just couldn't believe the evening, or life itself could get any better. Finally the crowd really cranked it up, particularly during Karma Police and certain sections of 'Android. It left me, and many around me in complete euphoria, and a very horse voice! The 'bells at this point were a-rainbow of many colours, leading to a perfect ending to the evening. It was peculiar though because so many around me (including myself) were stunned into thinking it was over. I couldn't believe it, i wanted them to play for hours; certainly the best GIG of my life.

Highlights: Friends, the weather, beer, Thom's crazy dancing & an incredible set list

Lowlights: Lack of crowd reaction, my num bumb, Radiohead needed to be on for longer, lack of Street Spirit, Pyramid Song or Creep, the mission home and the disappointing support act

All in all though, as close to perfection as we are going to reach on Earth.

Just picture this, one of my favourite bands release tickets for a one off intimate show, and I am on holiday. So after relentless trawling of eBay I manage, for a good price to get two balcony tickets. Success :)

Having only bought tickets the week before, I didn’t leave me too much time to get excited about it all but wow, the closer we got to Elephant and Castle, hehe I started getting all fidgety and yes, excited.

So anyway when we got in the officers kit was still being set up so we took our seats (having been previously nervous we would not be allowed in as it was supposed to be 18+) I began to notice that I think I was the youngest looking person there. In the following moments, I insisted on embarrassing Danni beside me by dancing like a complete goon in a dodgy dad style whilst also formulating a plan along the lines of who we should ask to go buy us drinks.

Before we knew it however, The Officers we on telling us how they were a Yorkshire band and that we should support them on myspace. Well having heard their selection of songs previously, I thought it might be a pleasant warm up before the main event. Well how wrong was I! They were terrible. The band showed no real emotion, all pretty static and no-one could make out the lyrics (although one song did appear to be about getting 'fire trucks' and 'ambulances' or something. I would really like to know who chose the support for an almighty band such as Placebo because seriously, they were just awful and an experience only eclipsed by Keane, Coldplay and Gym Class Heroes.

So having sat through half an hour of the Officers, and then 30 minutes of crazy roadies running about the stage (including one flashing his rear end to a stunned crowd) Placebo finally enter the stage, with diminutive Brian bouncy about with pure excitement. So in we go, at 9 o clock the 'banging toones' marathon begins. Having entered with a selection of the new album and back catalogue, particular high notes for me was the playing of Sleeping With Ghosts with its emotional lyrics and soft overtones turned into a whirling wall of sound, complete with interesting imagery projected onto large and small screens around the small Coronet. Another classic track, the first to really get the crowd moving was that of Every You Every Me with most people in the venue, including on the balcony singing along.

Other songs played include: Infra-Red, Drag, Meds, Song to Say Goodbye, Because I Want You, One of a Kind, The Bitter End, Special Needs, Special K and Taste in Men.

Following a rip roaring set which last for almost an hour and a half, the band walked off with the crowd screaming out for more. So that was exactly what they got, not one but two more encores with three extra tracks played. There was a wide variety in the nature of the songs as they played Running Up That Hill (the Kate Bush cover featured on the bonus version of Sleeping With Ghosts and on the OC) and Twenty Years before, a full one hour and 43 minutes later, Space Monkey, complete with sirens and a voice machine for Brian spooky early lines.

So that was that, I have finally got to see Placebo live and my word they did not disappoint. As I trudged off into the night and the hour and half journey across the capital, I calmly serenaded Danni to sleep with my own "beautiful" rendition of the opening lines of Space Monkey which were still firmly lodged in my mind. In terms of emotion and musical awesomeness, I think it was quite possibly the best gig I have ever been to and experienced :)
