It was very hard to limit the list down to 15 albums since there were tons of amazing albums in 2000's but I managed to do it finally. Once again I had a self imposed rule that no more than 1 album per band. Here it goes:

Even though I said there's no particular order, I think Blackwater Park was THE best album of this decade...

Overall I think it was a great year for heavy metal. I had a hard time putting in order the albums i liked so i decided to make the list randomly, which means that there were some really good albums this year :)

Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings

Bu yil Dream Theater'in album cikarma yili. Ozellikle 1999'daki Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory albumunden bu yana artik bi gelenek oldu bu: Album yap, turneye cik, live DVD cikar sonra tekrar studyoya album yapmaya git. Bunu iyi ya da kotu bisey olarak soylemiyorum, sadece Dream Theater gibi kaliplarin disinda, farkli, 'progresif' adi altinda muzik yapmak icin yola cikan bi grubun seneler sonunda nasil formulize hale geldigini gosteren belirtilerden biri oldugu icin soyluyorum.

Bir onceki album Systematic Chaos'u 2007'nin en iyi albumu olarak koymustum listeme. Ama orda da soylemistim cok objektif olmadigimi. Ve de belki o yil daha begendigim bi album olmadigi icin 1. siraya koymakta cok da zarar gormedim. Ama su anda geriye donup, bu sene cikan Black Clouds & Silver Linings albumu de dahil olmak uzere butun Dream Theater diskografisine baktigim zaman hic tereddut etmeden Systematic Chaos icin en kotu DT albumu diyebilirim. Albumde In The Presence Of Enemies ikilemesi disinda tek bir ise yarar parca yoktu. ITPOE gercekten mukemmel bir calismaydi bence, hatta ben sanirim tum albumu o ikilemeyle ozdeslestirdigim icin 1. siraya koydum. Ancak tarafsiz olarak bakarsak albumun gerisi tamamen cope atilasi cinsten.

Boyle karisik, ikilem icinde hissiyatlarla bekledim yeni albumu... Dream Theater'in 2000'lerin basindan bu yana girdigi bu yeni yolda artik cok da asiri yuksek tutmuyorum beklentilerimi ama yine de insan umit etmeden yapamiyor 'acaba bi Images & Words kalitesi olur mu' diye. Yeni albumun adinda da '&' isareti olunca biraz umitlendim tabi :)

Dream Theater'in resmi biyografisi 'Lifting Shadows'un yazari Rich Wilson, yeni album icin 'Dream Theater's most balanced album in a decade' diye bir yorum yapmis Metal Hammer dergisinde. Bence de bu albumu tek cumleyle tanimlamak gerekse daha iyi bir cumle dusunemiyorum. Album kesinlikle ust duzey kaliteli bir DT albumu degil, ama asla bir Systematic Chaos ya da Octavarium kadar hayal kirikligi da degil. 'Balanced' demesini de cok sevdim cunku yeni albumde Systematic Chaos ya da Octavarium'daki gibi uzun 'progressive metal' sarkilarin yaninda U2'dan Muse'dan carpma, Dream Theater'in ozuyle alakasi olmayan sarkilar yok. Daha dengeli bir muzik var ve sanki bir nebze de olsa oze donus var.

Sarkilari tek tek uzunca yorumlamak istemiyorum ama yine de birkac cumle bisey soylemeden gecemiycem:

A Nightmare to Remember, gotik metal havasinda enteresan bi sarki olmus. Sarkinin ortasindaki yavasladigi bolum sanki 1994 senesinin DT'sinden cikip gelmis bi anda; mukemmel sozler, nefis bir muzik.. Daha sonra sarki tekrar eski 'enteresan' sekline geri donuyor...

A Rite of Passage, DT'nin Train of Thought albumunden bu yana her albume koydugu 'klip cekilmesi allahin emri olan hit single' sarkilarinin bir yenisi. Systematic Chaos albumundeki Constant Motion foyaskosundan sonra illa ki iyi geliyor kulaga ama yine de nerden baksak Dream Theater gibi degil...

Wither, Mike Portnoy'un roportajinda dedigine gore tamamen John Petrucci'ye ait bir sarki. Bence cok guzel bir metal ballad havasinda. Sozler albumun gerisine gore daha ust duzey geldi bana ve sarkinin solosu Petrucci'den uzun zamandir duyamadigim guzellikte melodik bi solo..

The Shattered Fortress, Portnoy'un alkolle mucadelesindeki '12 steps of recovery' sarkilarinin sonuncusu (nihayet!!!). O kadar bayginlik gelmisti ki bana bu 12 steps sarkilarindan, resmen ustume rahatlik geldi bi sonraki albumde boyle bi konsept olmayacagini bildigim icin.. sarki da yeni bi sarkidan ziyade DT'nin konserlerde calmasina aliskin oldugumuz kolajlara benziyo.

The Best of Times, Mike Portnoy'un album kayitlari sirasinda kansere kaybettigi babasina ithafen yapilmis cok guzel ve duygusal bi sarki. Sarkinin sonunda oyle bir solo var ki Petrucci adeta Scenes From a Memory'den bu yana yazdigi sacma sapan sololari kompanse etmek istemis! Sarkiyi ben cok begendim ancak sozleri cok basit buldum..

Count of Tuscany, sanirim bu albumde en cok 1990'larin DT soundunu animsatan sarki. sarkinin girisindeki akor da zaten Images&Words albumunden Another Day'in baslangicindaki akorun aynisi. Sozler yine cok kotu ama sarki bence nefis olmus...

Sarkilarla ilgili tek tek yazarken de dedigim gibi DT'nin soz yazma kalitesi giderek kotulesiyor her albumde.. Bi Awake albumundeki sozlere bakiyorum, o karanlik, derin, insani resmen dusunmeye iten sozleri yazan insanlarla bu insanlarin ayni olduguna inanamiyorum. Hele hele albumun ilk sarkisi A Nightmare to Remember'in ilk dizesi 'a nightmare to remember, i'll never be the same' diye girdigi anda 'noluyor ulan sarki sozlerini backstreet boys'a mi yazdirmaya basladi bu adamlar' demeden duramadim kendi kendime...

Albume not vermek istemiyorum cunku yine objektif olamiycam ama yazinin geneline bakinca nispeten objektif olabilmisim gibi hissettim, umarim gercekten oyledir..

Ne olursa olsun, 2011'deki albumu yine de herseye ragmen heyecanla bekliyorum!

Trapt'in uzun zamandir buyuk heyecanla bekledigim yeni albumu Only Through The Pain resmi olarak henuz cikmasa da grubun resmi web sitesi www.trapt.com adresinde online olarak dinlenebiliyor. hayirsever bazi arkadaslar da sarkilari dinlerken kaydederek album seklinde internete koymuslar sagolsunlar. kalite gayet duzgun oldugu icin tum albumu agiz tadiyla bastan sona dinleyebildim, hem de defalarca.

bir onceki album olan Someone in Control'u cok sevmis biri olarak bu albumden hem beklentilerim epeyce yuksekti hem de boyle her grubun cok guzel bi album cikardiktan sonra biraz daha vasat album cikarmasi durumundan oturu tedirginlik de vardi. neyse ki yuksek beklenti kismini hakli cikaran bir album dinledim..

Trapt'i sevenler zaten biliyordur gurubun cok belli bir soundu var ve her albumde bunu koruyorlar. bu albumde de ayni seyi soylemek mumkun olmakla beraber Black Rose gibi dinlerken hem kendine hayran birakan hem de grubun normal soundundan hafif farkli duran bir iki sarki olmasi cok hos bir tat yaratmis.

bir onceki entry'de zaten ilk single olan Who's Going Home With You Tonight?'in linkini koymustum. Onunla ilgili ek bisey soylemeye gerek duymuyorum sarki gercekten cok guzel.. Onun disinda benim sahsen ilk gozume carpan sarkilar az once bahsettigim Black Rose ve Only One In Color oldu. Ozellikle Only One In Color sarkisi dinlenilsin, begenilsin sevilsin isterim yurekten.

Bunun disinda Contagious, Wasteland gibi cok standart Trapt sarkilari da mevcut albumde. Wherever She Goes ve Ready When You Are'e de dikkat demek istiyorum!!
