On Friday night I DJed at Blacknoise, an industrial and industrial rock night in Melbourne, Australia. It was a lot of fun. Overall a very loud and hard mix, which is how it should be.

Oh, and Gyn01d is my band with me the vocalist, I played it to check what the reaction would be... it was good.

Which song do you prefer, #1 or #40?
#40, no question there

2. Have you ever listened to #12 continuously on repeat?
Number 12? AHahahahah hell yes, when I was mixing the bloody thing down. That's right, it's one of the tracks from one of my acts. Particularly this one is my mixdown so I had no choice but to play it on repeat for hours and hours.

3. What album is #26 from?
The Land of Rape and Honey

4. What do you think about the artist who did #15?
Not too bad. I enjoy them but they are nowhere near being in my top-10 list.

5. Is #19 one of your favorite songs?
It is actually. It's a live recording made of an artist who has definately not been released. A personal friend of mine, i have it on the iTunes because I love her work. I hope that one day she will record something because she needs more fans than just her friends.

6. Who does #38 remind you of?
Ivy... because it annoys her

7. Does #20 have better lyrics or music?
Hard to say. Both are truly excellent but the same could be said for everything Carter USM have produced. Possibly the lyrics, or maybe the music, or maybe the lyrics.... argh.

8. Do any of your friends like #3?
Most likely, it's a good track that is kinda well done. I know at least one other person who I am sure likes the entire album.

9. Is #33 from a movie soundtrack?
Um, no it's not. I wish it was though. Oh BTW, once again one of my own tracks came up randomly on iTunes. That's what I get for using iTunes to encode mp3s of my work.

10. Is #18 overplayed on the radio?
Radio? What's that? Back when the album #18 is on was new some tracks from the album were overplayed... just not that one.

11. What does #21 remind you of?
the sudden unexpected tears upon hearin the album it's from the first time.

12. Which song do you prefer, #5 or #22?
Well, #5 is a new favorite but #22 is an old favorite. And they are completely different. I think it would depend on mood.

13. What album is #17 from?
It's from the album Panty Christ

14. When did you first hear #39?
When I bought the album.

15. When did you first hear #7?
When I downloaded the album from the artists website. It's there for free because he isn't allowed to sell it... because apparently mainstream artists get offended by their music being fucked with in the name of art...

16. What genre is #8?
Hmm, PWEI are not easy to categorise, Indie maybe, Electro maybe. Ummm who knows. I would probably have to go with Early 90s Indie or Electropop. ARGH.

17. Do any of your friends like #14?
I am about 99.998% sure none of them have heard it.

18. What color does #4 remind you of?
Red and black. And the sort of purple that professional "wrestlers" might use for their masks

19. Have you ever blasted #11 on your stereo?
Nope, it's not one of the stand-out tracks from the album.

20. What genre is #37?
Industrial

21. Can you play #13 on any instrument?
Not at all. It's not like it's the sort of thing you "play on an instrument" being industrial.

22. What is your favorite lyric from #30?
"I'm feeling witchy, witchy and powerful, I use what I've got and it's more than I need"

23. What is your favorite lyric from #23?
The lyrics don't exactly stand out. Honestly.

24. Would you recommend #24 to your friends?
Not really, there are heaps better tracks out there

25. Is #2 a good song to dance to?
Haven't tried, probably not. I would say of all megAAngelo tracks I have heard it's one of the least dancable.

26. Do you ever hear #16 on the radio?
Radio? I don't listen to the radio.

27. Is #32 more of a "nighttime" or "daytime" song?
Nighttime, definately

28. Does #36 have any special meaning to you?
*shudder* let me put it this way. The song is about an indigenous Australian who has a connection to their ancestral land yet cannot be there physically. It's extrememly meloncholy. The current evidence suggests that my family are indigenous, yet we haven't found our people yet. Government policy when my dad was a child made it necessary to lie to him regarding his past it is assumed. I have been dislocated from my ancestry... The song breaks my heart every time I hear it.

29. Do any of your friends like #31?
Probably, everyone likes Faithless

30. Is #25 a fast or slow song?
Slow.

31. Is #35 a happy or sad song?
Angry

32. What is one of your favorite lyrics from #9?
"The family play the moyel and he gets to keep the tip"

33. Is #34 better to listen to alone or with friends?
In a club with 25000 of your closest friends.

34. When did you first hear #27?
I think it was at a friend's house where I crashed when moving to my new city 10 years ago.

35. Name 3 other songs by the artist who did #29:
Corporate Slave, Born to be Mild, The Future

36. Do you know all the words to #6?
I didn't think I knew any of them till I started singing along to the song... then I realised I know a lot of the words but not quite all.

38. What album is #10 from?
Sunday 8PM

Wow, it has been a busy few weeks for me musically. I have been working on my Perfect Clarity stuff quite a lot and I am close to completion of my Album/EP Sinus. The album is dark ambient, glitch like and "interesting". I am not sure anyone would want to listen to it but there you go, it's more of an experiment than anything else. This is why it will be free online (with a paypal account where people can donate to me to keep the project alive).

As well as that I have actually been learning to sing. Normally I am a spoken word artist rather than a singer but apparently I have some talent with singing. I performed at an open mic a few days ago just me and Ivy (the other member of Gyn01d) on stage voice and guitar... We did 3 songs, the purpose was to get on stage again, get used to the stage. 2 of the songs were covers, Fade Into You by Mazzy Star and This Is How It Feels by Inspiral Carpets (that was covered masterfully by Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine).

The final track we did was welcome to gynoid by Gyn01d, obviously an original. It was wierd doing my own music without the full industrial sound but it was good as well. The feedback on the performance was good, the feedback on my song was very good.

The final part of my musical busyness involves Gyn01d. We have been writing songs again yesterday we wrote a new song, tentatively named Pockets Full of Rocks and working on that song enabled us to work on our sound, refining and defining it. We have also been kinda working on an industrial cover of This Is How It Feels for live shows. If we can manage to write that we will have 3 tracks ready for live shows. It will take a while to be ready at this rate but with work we can be doing live shows by the Summer.

I had better get a day job to pay for gear and production costs...

The album will be called [album]Sinus[/album] and will be offered as donation-ware on a website once my website is built.

I have 3 tracks, about 15 minutes, of the 10-15 tracks, 60 minutes, I intend to produce. I believe that donation-ware or freeware music is a way to successfully promote a band in this day and age. Let's see how we go. The album will be completed in a month or so I would say.

After having not really bought any new industrial for a long time I have bought 4 new albums this year, a lot when you consider that most my industrial collection is from between 1990 and 1996. The first I bought was With Teeth, a slower and more "emo" production by Nine Inch Nails but still not too bad. Definately not as good as his early 90s stuff but OK. Next, bought not long after, was The Greater Wrong of the Right. It is definately the most political work Skinny Puppy have produced, by their own admission. Although some moments are weak I generally like the album.

Purchased most recently was After the Devastation and Artificial Soldier. The Leæther Strip is a thematic departure for him, a good one in my opinion. The lyrics have been lent power by his obvious emotional collapse and then love for his new partner Kurt. The queercore stylings appeal to me as a queercore artist myself. This most recent album is also one of his most musically powerful, and like a lot of recent industrial/ebm albums it is more overtly political than we would normally expect. The new Frontline Assembly album is classic FLA, has the same style and thematic elements that we are used to. From what I have heard it is a relatively powerful album.

The verdict? The Bush regime and the "war on terror" has brought the overt politics back into industrial. After the Devastation is one of the best albums I have ever heard.

SO, what's your favorite genre album people? For me my favorite is a longtime fave, like for more than 10 years. It's not only my favorite industrial/electo album it's my favorite album of any genre. That album is Greatest Hits which was, of course, the first album Sheep On Drugs did. Pretty much every track on it is a stand-out track.

Sadly though, their later work was not as exciting. That is why Sheep On Drugs, despite producing my favorite album, are not my favorite artists.

So, favorite albums people.

Well finally, we have a demo on last.fm. Basically, the track, called Jam About A Boy (Clarity Mix v1) is a mixdown of a jam we recorded. The mixfdown was performed by me (under the name Clarity - my ambient project) and I heavily effected it to the Clarity style.

The demo is available on the band page is as full-length download. All I need now is for people to listen to it so connections can form and stuff getting more people listening to it. We are starting to write songs rather than just jamming so we shoudl have more material soon. Then ... gigs... there is nothing quite like being on stage...

I guess at some point I really should put some of my other project on here as well, but that might have to wait till I have produced more. I have neglected the project for years and I have nothing new, the newest stuff is about 7 years old.

I can't tell you what it is with Faithless. Normally I am a big fan of industrial and EBM and avoid anything that even smells of the mainstream. Faithless is an exception though. It started when I first heard Insomnia. I was blown away by the track, I had heard techno before but nothing like that. There was some lag between me becoming obsessed with that track and my later complete obsession with Faithless but it is true that I bought Reverence first if I remember rightly.

Sunday 8PM was bought the day it was released in Australia and is still one of my favorite albums. Outrospective was not bought as quickly largely because of lack of time to go buy it and I still haven't gotten around to buying No Roots but I will soon.

It has long been a cause of introspection why I am so into Faithless even though I don't like mainstream music. Today I worked it out. Faithless are not mainstream, they have never sought commercial success to that level. They simply made music they liked and released it seeming genuinely shocked that it was so popular. That, my friends, is how to get famous and maintain your fame.

I am thinking of starting a band. There are several reasons for this, I have been a musician and performance poet at different times in my life and it would be nice to have a band to play with that sort of stuff with other people. Additionally, I think there is need for a queercore industrial act in my city, and in the world. Hmm, I think industrial rock would work good too.

My thoughts are somewhere along the line of Tribe 8 meeting Ministry and having a threesome with Coptic Rain while Skinny Puppy watch wondering why they weren't invited to join in. Aggro rapped lyrics (by an angry woman - we need more angry screamy women), loud angry industrial and a sweet voiced cute girly singer.

It's a dream, but a good dream. Maybe I will be able to pull it off, I only know a few people who aren't musicians. Also, I want to do a cover of Wrong Bathroom
