Just wrote the last.fm wiki article for artist Val Halla.

Unfortunately, many scrobbles appear to be songs that have been misattributed to her (and her band) due to people mis-tagging any of the several unrelated bands named Valhalla.

It is clear to me that we are going to have to purchase Val Halla's music and scrobble the heck out of it in order to correct this.

Awww, shoot. I wanted to buy a gift subscription, just now, for a friend's birthday, but the new Subscribe page no longer lets you choose the username that the subscription will go toward. Indeed, the last.fm FAQ now explicitly states,

Can I purchase a subscription for another user?
No, sorry – it’s currently not possible to buy a gift subscription for someone else.

When did THAT happen, and WHY?

I am very much going to miss being able to grace my friends with last.fm subscriptions. ):

In just a couple of hours, my family and I (and our friend Laura) are going out for an evening at the Oaksong Society's 4th Annual Hawaiian Luau, with special guest musicians Daniel Ho, Herb Ohta Jr., and Brittni Paiva. I kind of got roped into this, but I'll be looking forward to the music, and it's always fun to dress up "aloha style" in a welcome environment. =)

Amiatsu's Playlist

Just a short and quick little journal entry to say that I enjoy last.fm user Amiatsu's playlist tremendously. Solid mix of electronica, trip-hop, funk, soul, Japanese soundtrack, latin dance, blue-eyed soul, and even a bit of light '80s cheese like George Michael, Erasure, and that Rick Astley song for good measure. I will say it's a little heavy on the Radiohead for my personal taste, but I consider that to be balanced by her inclusion of several Duran Duran, Simply Red and Muse selections.

If there were a single last.fm playlist I could opt to store on an iPod for myself, I believe hers would be the one. I definitely recommend giving it a spin sometime.
