In a perfect mix of culture and music,last Friday me and another hundred people,were attending a beautiful evening of music and emotions
in a little town from Caserta,South Italy
the venue called Oddly Shed is a nice pub in the middle of nowhere and near to the road to Naples,we were only a few attending
at the door before the opening,but it looked alike it was to be a beautiful night.
Me and my friend C. were there at the 10:00 PM then they opened doors and we enter in.
This venue is a pub and it reminds me a lot to Stazione Birra in Rome,but it's more modest and smaller.
We were there and the first thing I noticed is Danny that was talking with some girls and people from the crew of the Oddly Shed
the second thing we thought about was to take the place that we had reserved for dinner and ordered a few salad plates ans some beer.
the eating stuff was nothing good,but anyway we filled a bit our stomach before the show started.
The first performance was by the Neapolitan band Corde Oblique.The only stuff I listened before that is the version of Flying,original
by Anathema and to be honest it liked me a lot since the first time I've heard them...
I assumed that I was ready to listen a fine band.They are composed by 4 base elements,guitar,violin,percussions,femal e voice and the male
singer that's the mind of this musical complex
Thay make a mix of medieval,ethereal sounds with the mediterranean touch that made of them one of the best folk bands I've seen live till now
they made a setlist of some songs from their new album The stones of Naples and the cover of Kaiowas,original from Sepultura.
In an explosion of tribal percussions and energy we were really satisfied with their acting.
Then came the turn of Danny who started to tunning his guitar and giving directions to the guy from the mixer to setting better the sound.
He started playing Deep and the general excitement was suddenly noticed,he seems was a bit nervous but after that song he started telling
jokes and kidding with people about wrong foreigner's way of eating italian food,he asked how to say some sentences in italian and so he
became more relaxed seeing the positive crowd reactions.
People was really glad to have finally a great artist like him by the first time in the South Italy.
It was truly a must to see him and of course I went there with the greatest expectations of a nice and memorable concert
as it was,indeed.
the setlist more or less was like follow,with exception of few songs that I've missed to write cause I was distracted taking pics:

Then he finished the concert with a happy but tired crowd (it was really late) as himself,the hot weather was enough to make sweat him and us
like pigs,hehe.
After the concert I met him for a few minutes,he signed my latest Anathema CD and then I gave him a few little gifts (hope he appreciate them)
He said thanks and gone to this own way to meet other fans that asked him for pics and stuff,he looked very tired and annoyed
at that point,but it's normal after an exhaustive concert as the one he did himself.
That's all for this so called review.I hope to see more artists near to my region,cause I'm really tired to travel too far away to see
my favorite bands and artists...Hopefully somebody will contact them in the future,after this successful performance of Danny :)

Well,after a long awaited time to seeing Anekdoten,finally I can say they are one of the best prog/rock/psychedelic bands ever,after Pink Floyd and King Crimson,obviously...

As somebody told me before the concert...We were in front of one highlight concerts this year, so far.

After a long trip in train and an even longer walk to find the venue (Stazione Birra) that was a really nice venue and well assorted with beers and food,but it's so hidden and hard to find if you weren't there before ...This club has been stage for most of the best concerts in Rome.

The place was almost full and the concert started at the 10:00 PM more or less.

The host of the concert said before the guys started to play,that they had a long trip from France until Rome on a boat,then they've lost in Rome and finally they had some problems to find the venue.Oh well...I didn't was the only one at last,hehe.

I've met there some of my friends. We had some drinks,some chat and talked about our expectations about the concert.The stage was ready and then we've took our places in first row when most of the people were seated to watch the concert.

The lights were turned on and then,Jan Erik,the bassist made the introduction for the fans and started Monolith as fist song.

The first notes were enough to get ready an enthusiastic crowd and as usual I've started to take some pics.The sound and light were perfect,they made the soundcheck at the 7:00 PM and all was perfectly prepared for the night of music and fun.

The atmosphere was really great.The Anekdoten guys seems to have enjoyed it a lot and the people there was quite content to listening a great band like them.

Anna Sofi Dahlberg is one of the main musicians,not even the most important in the band,but essential as everyone of them to create the marvellous sounds that came out from her mellotron.She really rocks as a very talented mellotron player and cellist.I don't know if she plays another instruments as Nicklas Barker (The guitarist) but definitely she took a very important part of the gig that night.
Nicklas and Jan Erik voices were well balanced and harmonic as the rest of the performance.They were in perfect symbiosis with every song they played and sometimes they headbanged a lot too with the heaviest songs of the setlist that was as follow:

I had the original setlist from the Nicklas hands, personally.We were talking after the concert and was really nice to met him as the rest of his mates.They are really lovely people and we (me and all the people who attended the concert) were happy to talk them,they signed our cds,posters and took pictures with all them.

They had a very busy time at the merchandising point,it was good cause a lot of people who didn't know them before the show,were there to buy their cds and everything related to the band.

Finally was the time to say goodbye and we left the venue with a kind of soft melancholy as the music they do.The best moments for me,were when they played the song 30 pieces that's my favotire form theur latest album album A Time of Day and Sad Rain from the album Vemod and other of my favorite songs were too Harvest,Monolith,The Great Unknown and In for a Ride...If you can check them out at:

Actually, Gazpacho is one of my favorite bands.I've never had the chance to see them live,but I hope to do it soon.
