I'm back to listening to albums in their entirety in a big way - I was making a mix CD the other week, and as usual was taking ages making sure everything was in the correct order (gotta get the right transition), and it made me wonder why on earth I was putting other folks time to waste by listening to everything on random. Fool I am.

So yes. My first album of the day is Recording a Tape the Colour of Light. Mum lent it to me when I was home for the weekend, as it's a side-project of The Arcade Fire. It's wonderful :) Lots of interesting sounds and some really fabulous bass stuff. I like it a lot. It's a good 'busy' album... not one for listening to when driving or walking, or really even just sitting still doing nothing. Definitely good for working. I think my favourite track is les luminieres pt2, but it's hard to pick just one.

Second up was Yellow House. I've been listening to Grizzly Bear a lot recently. I discovered them though the LJ community 'indie_exchange', through downloading a single track Little Brother. My favourite on the album is probably the last track, Colarado. The album really is great - so many different sounds all coming together :) Nice, very nice.

Currently it's Faking The Books, which I got ages ago and listened to on random, so didn't appreciate it fully. I got into Lali Puna through their Human League cover, Together in Electric Dreams, but their own stuff is just as good. Very minimalistic but also with enough of a beat to keep your fingers working. Keeps my typing speed up for these long reports ;) If you haven't heard much Lali Puna, I'd probably compare them to Ladytron with a spacey-sub hangover which makes them intense and floaty at the same time. Yes.

Next up is Give Up. I have no idea why I didn't get into this band sooner - I've had various tracks kicking about the PC for ages but again, never really paid attention due to the demon of Random Play. My favourite tracks are Such Great Heights, Brand New Colony, andNothing Better. I'm amazed they they haven't made me all maudlin, but i think that's why I love them so... very bittersweet.

Finally, in this bout of study music, I'm going all Old School with a touch of Badly Drawn Boy. I think a lot of people have forgotten about The Hour Of The Bewilderbeast, and more than likely because his more recent stuff is so bland. But this is not. It sparkles and shines and fills me with mini-grins. Best tracks as possibly Another Pearl and Say It Again.
