My favorite song off that album has shifted in the past few months, from Our Retired Explorer (Dines With Michel Foucault in Paris, 1961) to Hospital Vespers. Hospital Vespers is so haunting. I love pretty much all the songs on that CD. And that's a rarity for me.

So I listened to Sound The Alarm. I hate it. I don't think I've ever disliked a Saves the Day album, but I really can't stand it. It seems to be going in the way of what my boyfriend termed "nu-emo," which is a completely sarcastic term for all the shitty music that people like to tag as emo or hardcore or whatever the hell it's supposed to be these days. Someone said StD was going back to their roots with Sound the Alarm, but all I hear is wailing, yelling, and violent imagery. STA is pretty much all violent imagery. Some people like that. I don't. I guess I'm more of a sap; I rather liked the more mushy, romantic, poppy sounding Saves the Day songs. Lyrics about stabbing my ex-lover's heart out and dying and wanting to commit suicide and going to hell...I can only take so much before it starts sounding like My Chemical Romance or something. As Your Ghost Takes Flight off Stay What You Are had that line about nailing someone up to a wall and drinking their blood, but I could tolerate that song because it was sandwiched in between other, better songs (like Freakish and Nightingale.)

Well, at least I got the other StD albums to listen to.

I get back from Vietnam July 13th.

But it's addictive. I hear Sean Paul, and I want to get up and dance. That's how you get rich and famous in the music biz, eh? Make songs that girls can shake their asses to. I know his music is shitty but fuck it- stupid kids at clubs for indie bands don't ever dance. Gravity of Love Yeah this is definitely a song people have sex to, but I wouldn't.

Firefly One of my favorite Saves the Day songs (they are the only 'emo' I can really stand). It's an impassioned, "if-a-boy-sang-this-to-me-i'd-have-sex-with-him-instantly" song. Ok, well not ANY boy. So if you are a guy who can play this song on guitar and meet my other standards, I want you in my bed. Has the cliche "love=fire that consumes us" metaphor but I love it.

Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young This is off the soundtrack to "Streets of Fire," an 80's rock and roll opera(?) that has Willem Dafoe in it. I must see it. This song is produced by Jim Steinman, who does all of Meatloaf's songs. I love Steinman's songs; they all have that epic Wagnerian pop-rock feel. This song is 7 minutes long, 7 minutes of pure cheesy 80s pop heaven.

Crazy=Cute OMGZ this song is so FUCKING ADORABLE. It's probably the female vocals but SHIT! I have to DANCE when I hear this song.

First Kiss Wow, I haven't heard anything from NFG in a while, but maybe it's because I don't keep up with bands I don't really like. This is the only NFG song I listen to, and it's because I have a funny memory associated with it; in 9th grade I played it in my room when a guy I liked came over, and was trying to give him a hint that I wanted him to kiss me. Guess what? He didn't, and later I found out he was gay.

I never figured out what he wouldn't do; I guessed anal sex or dirty sanchez, but I don't know. When the song speeds up leading up to the chorus, I get psyched.

Body Movin' (Fatboy Slim remix) Okay, I know this isn't a love song. But the chorus could be misconstrued as a call to have sex, right? "we need body rockin', not perfection/let me get some action from the back section" Don't feel like you need to be a perfect lover! As long as you are getting some, it's all good, right? Maybe. This is an awesome song to make your boyfriend dance to, especially if he hates to dance :P

I remember liking them in elementary/middle school, and then shunning them because it wasn't the cool thing to like boy bands. I was never obsessed with them like most girls were; I didn't swoon over the boys either...none of them were really all that attractive to me, except maybe Kevin? The oldest one. Definitely was NOT one of the girls who had posters of them covering every inch of my bedroom walls.

Their most recent CD, Never Gone, I think is pretty good. I don't like the songs they chose to be their singles. My faves? Climbing the Walls, Siberia, Poster Girl and Song for the Unloved.

Vroom. I've been listening to them non-stop.

I discovered them in tenth grade, on some public access music show that local bands performed on. I heard their song, I Can't Stand Another Minute Here, and thought they were excellent. I don't know what they'd be classified as, pop-indie rock? No idea. I know sure as hell they aren't "emo" in the sense of StD or anything. I went out and bought their CD that weekend, having heard only that one song. It was great.

For some reason, a few nights ago, I remembered them. I haven't listened to them in forever, and I tried to see if anyone on DC++ had their album, Throws Like a Girl, and lo and behold...someone did! I downloaded it and have been listening to it ever since.

Then I checked their website and found out they broke up a while ago. That made me sad, because now I can't see them perform live, and they don't sell shirts anymore. :\ I should've bought one when I had the chance.

It's weird, they're classified under "Christian" but I had no idea they were considered a Christian rock band, because none of their songs mention anything remotely dealing with religion. So this is one of the few times that I will like and listen to a "Christian" rock band. :P

I found my old Propagandhi mp3s and remembered how I stopped listening to them because I hated the lead singer's annoying voice. So grating. And all their radical left wing-manifestos in every song...I don't mind politics in my music if it's done WELL. The other vocalist, who sounds like he should be in an emo band, left to form The Weakerthans. I've been listening to them a lot too, and it's good their songs aren't about hating girls who broke their hearts because that shit gets old real fast.]]>
