There's also a mention of one of my fav lines ever "I hope you're drunken daughters are gay" from the track He Lied About Death.

Highlights:

"My life is boring, why would I write about that?"

"Some perverts go to jail, some go to the White House."

"Osama Bin Laden and George Bush are the same person, fighting their fake war to make money off of people's backs.

Since i've taken a vow of Con-poverty (with the exception of the title track, which I accidentally heard on their Youtube video) I need to find other ways to get my Tegan and Sara fix, hence this journal entry.

As a huge fan of Tegan and Sara I'm ashamed to admit that for ages now I haven't really known their lyrics perfectly. This is pretty unfortunate since they're my favourite band to play and sing along to on the guitar. Most of the time the lyrics pretty easy to catch or at least just kinda make up as you go along. I decided to share some of my mistakes...they vary from understandable errors to embarassingly off and just plain nonsensical.

When I get up
Feel the rhythm in my fingers
I get up
Feel the rhythm in my left hand [laughter]

So keep the light on
Before you hop into bed
Cause baby this is
The last of this love [honest look] that I’ll ever give
This is your last love [look]
This is your last love [look]
This is your last love [LOOK!]

Watching old baseball games
And those dodgy [low budget] tele-a-thons

And when I get out for good behaviour
I’m writing love songs
‘stead of writing mean [Silly banging knee] songs

not your fault the tires are tired the camera moves
and your [driver’s been pulled] dry wall’s been built

I would go to jail with omnivores [only boys]
Just to prove I was as tough as you

And of course

If you’re gonna get off [up]
You might as well get off [up] with me

Released
Wincing the Night Away- The Shins
As much as I enjoy the Shins they seem to be a band that I don't mind having a sporadic relationship with. Occassionally i'll fall into a Shins pit and need to listen to them but I usually crawl out pretty quickly. Consistently good but that isn't always a good thing. The new album is what you'd expect from them.

Neon Bible - Arcade Fire
One of the most anticipated albums of the year, not by me but in general. Following up their first album Funeral, it took time for me to warm to it but now I love it, Arcade Fire or The Arcade Fire or whatever have successfully lived up to their reputation. Favourite: My Body Is a Cage

The Reminder - Feist
Have recently been trying to catch up with feist. For a long while I had only heard Mushaboom which I loved, awesome music video as well, but have been expanding lately. After listening to the Monarch and Let It Die albums i'm convinced i'll love this new cd. Just need to get around to actually listening to it.

Leaked
The Con - Tegan and Sara
This album is due to be released on July 24th. It's just a matter of me waiting. I've actually got the leak on my computer right now but after reading Sara's post on myspace I decided to wait for the release. It's killing me not to listen to it but I want to at least try to hold out for as long as humanly possible.

People have had mixed reactions to the cover. I didn't really get it at first but have warmed to it now. I like the old-ish feel and based on the cover it looks like this album will have a darker sound.

Anticipating
In Our Bedroom After the War - Stars
Stars is a band that seemed unremarkable to me initially but after some time of casual listening I realised I love them. Now I can't stop listening to them and am eagerly awaiting their new one.

Our Love to Admire - Interpol

Third Album from Interpol to be released in July. Love this band and from the sounds of The Heinrich Maneuver it looks like Interpol will be as good as ever. Just another album i'm eagerly anticipating. Awesome cd cover as well!

I'm facing a dilemma and to put it simply i'll use the completely over quoted words of Shakespeare'To delete or not to delete'.

After buying and ripping the Cruel Intentionsand
Thirteen soundtracks , both of which I love as a whole, I found that the tracks I would previously skip over on a cd player would be stuck in my iTunes.

I didn't think it'd be much of a problem but as a big fan of shuffle it drives me crazy when I have a good run of songs only to bump into Pay Attention To Me by Orlando Brown off the Thirteen soundtrack. This is easily the second most irritating song in history but second only because Who Let The Dogs Out is much more commonly heard. To a lesser extent You Blew Me Off is a similarly annoying song on a great soundtrack.

I considered deleting any songs I disliked but i'm a little pedantic about having complete albums/soundtracks. Hence my dilemma.

Also soundtracks which are predominantly or completely musical scores are great to listen to when the mood strikes but not really good for day to day shuffle listening. Love the following soundtracks but i'm thinking I should delete them off my Ipod and listen to the cds instead.

Great soundtracks soon to leave my ipod:
American Beauty
The Shawshank Redemption
Pan's Labyrinth
William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Volume 2

Slightly unrelated but I also have problems with artists I like who have albums I don't necessarily hate but don't EVER listen to. Jewel is my case point. Love Pieces of You but 0304 just wasn't my thing. I get that she was trying to change styles and that her clip for Intuition was supposed to be satirical but that just didn't make the album better. After much debating I deleted all of 0304 and resolved to have the cd on standby should my opinion ever change.

I'm sure most people would say stop whining and just delete what you don't like. But I just can't do it.

The speakers announced that Sarah Blasko would actually be on stage at the scheduled time at 8.30 so I made a quick stop at the toilets before taking my seat front row on the left of the stage. York theatre was as small as could be, perfect for an intimate little concert. You could hear everything from the rustling of paper to the tapping feet of Sarah on stage.

The five piece classical band played a quick instrumental and soon afterwards Sarah took the stage and you could feel the anticipation in the air. She played a nice mix of songs from her new release as well as 'old' catalogue occasionally chatting to the audience while guitars were changed. She sung beautifully and danced in her oh-so-blasko way. After about an hour there was a 20min intermission. Yes. An intermission at a concert. Completely unexpected but suprisingly it broke the ice a little for the audience.

The surprise guest was Holly Throsby. I'm a developing fan of hers and had been meaning to buy her album, her delightful 3-song duet set has definitely convinced me. Their voices were perfect for a duet even though Sarah apparently had a cold. Singing one of Sarah's then one of Holly's followed by a cover. It was a shame Holly left after only 3 songs leaving Sarah to finish the night.

Overall it was a nice relaxing evening with beautiful music and uncomfortable seats. Even the out of tune singing from the guy sitting behind me couldn't break the mood. Sarah Blasko proves to be a unique singer and performer.

Holly Throsby
http://www.last.fm/event/160235
Sarah Blasko

I was starting to worry when the weeks went by and it still hadn't been delivered but today when i woke there it was on the coffee table! I was absolutely delighted and quickly ripped it onto my ipod.

So my first impressions. I'm liking it as a whole and especially like the tracks they played at the concert just cause they brought me back. Compared with skeleton jar...well i guess i haven't given CTD enough time but SJ as a whole is a stronger album. With CTD there are a few tracks in particular that I love like 'start today tomorrow' and 'on a string' and 'Forever Young' of course but I feel like even the weaker tracks on SJ aren't far below the standard of the new albums stand outs.

With all this in mind the album is definitely still an excellent progression for the band and I look forward to listening to it on loop =)

***1/2 out of 5
