The Bands

Friday

Regina Spektor - Pyramid

Really really enjoyed her and it looked like she was enjoying her self as well giggling away at what was happening in the crowd.

Slow Club - The Sung

I'd never heard these guys before but was told they were worth watching and they really where. Playing an acoustic song in the middle of the crowd was a really nice touch.

Fleet Foxes - Pyramid

Got there a bit late so was stuck on the edge of the crowd who really weren't into what they were seeing. Good but should have been on later on the Park would have come over so much better.

British Sea Power - Avalon

So so so much better than last year in the Leftfield Tent (which is coming back next year I think). Crowd were really up for it with quite a few branches being carried in not sure what Mr Eavis would have thought of that though.

Animal Collective - Park

What can I say totally brilliant exactly what I thought they were going to be. Really need to see them again when I'm not so tired and can dance a bit more.

Saturday

Peter, Bjorn and John - Other

They were OK nothing great can't really say more than that really passed the time.

Metric - Other

Another highlight of the weekend only really heard little bits before but will be listening to more now. New album sounds really good so good I bought it when I walked in to the Rough Trade stall unaccompanied I told my mate to keep me out of there.

The Memory Band - Park

Hadn't heard of this band before the weekend but when I seen on the listing they were playing the score from The Wicker Man which is one of my favourite films I was intrigued. I as I expected it was very weird but also beautiful.

Tony Benn - Speakers Forum

Really enjoyably Q&A with Tony really annoyed that I thought of good questions after it was finished.

M. Ward - Park

I could have been getting ready to watch Springsteen but that was never going to happen. Mr Ward and his band were perfect lots from the new album including the cover of Buddy Holly's Rave On which is really slowed down and quite amazing. Finished with Roll Over Beethoven which got the people around me moving.

Bon Iver - Park

Another out of this world show everything was spot on. The sing-a-long during Wolves was special and showed brilliantly the community spirit of Glastonbury.

Sunday

Art Brut - Other

After a walk back to the car to drop the tents of it's time for some Art Brut and it really was good fun the only thing that would have been them planning Formed a Band.

Brand New - Other

A band I'd heard a lot about mostly on the Drowned in Sound forums heard a couple of songs before so i thought I'd give it a go and I was disappointed. And to make a really good set into and amazing and quite special set they done a cover of one of my favourite songs, Oh Comely by Neutral Milk Hotel. Not only did they cover it but they covered it very very very welll.

Wasn't much on I wanted to see in the afternoon so I sat in the Cabaret tent and really enjoyed my self. Special mentions for Robin Ince and Mark Thomas to very angry but funny Men.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Pyramid

Got there just as madness finished so managed to get a good spot just behind the second barrier. I've never listened to Nick as much as I should have but they were brilliant Red Right Hand and Stagger Lee being the highlights.

Blur - Pyramid

And so will get to the final band of the weekend and the one I've been most looking forward to. This is the first time I've seen a full headline set at Glastonbury and I really don't think it will be bettered if I go to another one. The set was full of every type of emotion for everyone there. The extra chorus of Tender the crowd did after the band had finished was very special and something I was glad to be a part of. I'm ashamed to say that a shed a bit of a tear with Damon at the end of To The End. Amazing

So that was my Glastonbury 2009 and it reminds me of another great thing about this festival. No two people will every have the same experience at Worthy Farm.

Till next year....

Wed 24 Jun – Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts
