I have compiled a list of songs that I might currently consider my favorite songs. Favorites, of course, always shift and change over time, which is why I call this the "2011 Edition". Where there are multiple artists listed, that means that there are multiple artists that have performed the song (whether it be a cover or something else). I only list the cover versions that I actually like -- not every one that exists.

Epica, Blackguard, and Threat Signal at the Masquerade

Sun 28 Feb – Design Your Universe - North American tour 2010

Sunday night I went to Epica's last show in the North American tour. It was very awesome.

The opening bands were Blackguard and Threat Signal and a couple of local bands.

Some very cool stuff happened. First, while Blackguard was playing, the guitarist (Kim Gosselin) came down off the stage to where my friend and I were standing and played for us. He even let my friend play the guitar a bit during the song. After Blackguard was done, he came and talked to us and we each got signed CDs.
And I got a video of this happening! See it here:

Later Threat Signal played and my friend's boyfriend was freaking out a bit because he had bought their CD from the singer at the merch table and hadn't even realized it. All was fixed, though, because after they were done we talked to the singer and got pictures with him and whatnot. I didn't get one of their CDs because I didn't actually care about their music that much... but it was still cool.

Epica was, of course, awesome on stage. Simone's voice is just as great live as it is recorded. I was definitely not disappointed.

Album Releases 2010

This year looks like it's going to be great as far as new album releases go. The following artists are in the studio, and some of them already have approximate release dates for their new albums. I'm so excited!

We Are the Fallen -- This one I'm especially excited about, since it's the former members of Evanescence along with Carly Smithson, who was the only reason I ever really watched American Idol. She's amazing!

Anyway, it looks like I'm going to need to save up some money to buy all of these CDs! I usually get my CDs used online, but these are all going to deserve a purchase at the store as soon as they're released.

A Few Last.FM Rants

There are a few things that I've noticed that Last.FM members tend to dwell on. Here are my thoughts:

1) 90% of the pictures on artists pages are photoshopped. You don't have to comment on every single one of those pictures. Everyone uses photoshop now, so get over it.

2) Tags are not genres. I don't see why people can't grasp that. Tags are labels -- a tag is any way that a person wants to label their music. This is why we have tags like "seen live" and "crap".

I'll edit this journal when I think of more.
