so, the second part--
though the crowd or at least the people around us sucked ass, the show was quite great. so great that i have to talk about it in bullet points.

re: magic wands

* the singer, i think she was going through her lou reed phase since she kept her shades on for their whole set
* there were severed animal heads, not real by the way. one which was a lion, from the distance it looked like elephant man.
* i won't say that they sucked. i will say that i was not particularly moved by it. being in the same vein as the kills as they are (the kills wiped the floor with them to be honest) it probably wasn't that fair a deal for them to open.
* also get the feeling they may be on record than they are live

the horrors

* O.M.G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
* the sweet hair cuts, the tight trousers, the skinniness, *girlish sigh*
* faris is a madman....and i like it.
* they stuck to material from the latest record and nothing from strange house. i was bummed, samantha was bummed, we were bummed together.
* the boys had loads of energy and we both cracked up that their merch was more money than the kills merch. hey, if that money will get them a headling stateside tour, i'm all for it and i hope it happens
* the highlight though was meeting faris and spider webb as we were leaving. faris is like 7 ft tall or something and he is really quite cute and very soft-spoken.
* didn't say much just gave them kudos for a job well done, spider brushed against me as they were going wherever they were going...
* and then he put the squeeze on me. O_o don't know if it's official or not, but i think british boys in bands think i'm charmin! though, i think it's ok to squeeze me.

the kills

* yeah, don't know where to start with this
* the kills are badass
* why yes, they are loud as fuck and they're is only two of them on stage!
* alison, alison, alison.....i love you! girl!crush ahoy, my friends
* yeah, like, if you look up badass rock babe, i'm fairly certain there would be a picture of alison
* i never thought seeing a cute spit would be so fantastic, it really was
* they did covers of crazy (cline not barkley) and i put a spell on you. <---- no truer words have ever been sung, let me tell you what.
* did i mention the kills are badass? welp, it bears repeating.

favorite pictures!

The KillsThe HorrorsMagic Wands

Sat 9 May – The Kills, The Horrors, Magic Wands

this is going to be epic...

i really need to talk about the kills/horrors gig from saturday: but i'm going to break it up in two so i can the crazy pictures i took. i have a new camera and no idea what i'm doing, but it's ok. also i want to have space to gush about faris....oh, faris...his speaking voice is soooo soft. and being politely groped/squeezed (read: kinda felt up) by spider. man, it was just like a minute or so, but this exchange could be a whole post...but it will just be part of it.

what i want to talk about now are the drunk people bringing the crazy. maybe it was the gossip girl contingent out in force waiting for the one song they know. there was a girl next to me who, apparently unbeknownst to her at the time, saw allison outside earlier. i just kept thinking you don't even know what they look (for those arriving late, the kills look like a low-fi jane birkin and serge gainsbourg. it really is true) i was quietly flabbergasted. annoying chatterbox to one side, some apeshit middle age lady keeping with the amy winehouse theme of women being drunk and looking and behaving like damned lunatics. then there were the bros...DUUUUUUDE! the drunk soroity girls that i think may have been ejected or at least shuffled off elsewhere jumping around like that roaches in their thongs.

O.M.F.G. x infinity
i am not joking, worst fucking crowd ever. don't evenget me started on these chumps who did want to let anyone through. i thought samantha got abducted by aliens. she had to go around some crazy way. this may be one of the worst audiences i have had the misfortune of being in....

oh wait, i haven't even mentioned the photographers and their crazy lenses getting in the way. this one bitchass photographer shoved her way in front me than kept bumping me with her big as bag (ok, like i was told that i had to check my bag and this chachi still has hers. whatever) and she just kept taking pictures for like i don't know how long. i am stood there like start jenny thoughts-
wow, i'm like up front and literally one or two people away from touching the stage and i still have to look at the back of people's fat heads. what the fuck! i've never wanted punch so many people in the neck as i do right now. -end jenny thoughts. seriously, this.

when we finally made it out after the show (and with our very awesome merch, by the way) we contemplated whether to head over to smart bar. they did have diplo and i was interested, but i fed up with all these lame dead weights, the thought of being in smart bar with these people sort of made me homicidal in the brain. motherfucker, please! so we just went back to sam's flat (she was awesome and let me crash there, which is always awesome cause if i'm lucky, i get to wake up with cat on top of me..literally, on top of me staring me dead in the face. thanks rocko for being my feline alarm clock! guess you had to be there for that one). more fun on the outside while like two or three, couldn't tell to be honest, were escorted and physically inserted into a taxi. the amy winehouse/britney gone off the rails routine was getting old right about then. damn stilletos and hoochie skirts that pretty much scream "oh my god, you guise...i have no underwear on and if i just look down you can see my uterus, LOLLERSKATES!!!"

oh, for fuck's sake, where's your dignity??? other than that, the show was great

Tue 15 Apr – My Chemical Romance, Billy Talent, Drive By

the mcr gig was my first time seeing them live and my first big full-on gig of the year. i think this totally explains my nervy stomach and i was so excitable i thought i was going to wet myself, like you do.

now that you have more information than you ever possibly want...i will include some minor details that have nothing to do with the show itself. the first was when i was at the bus stop waiting, i decided to check out my eyes again, it was really windy and my allergies were sort of bugging me. whilst i had the mirror up, some chap stopped, thought he wanted to ask for directions or summat, he just told me that i looked beautiful and went on his way. the other thing is that there is a casino in downtown kck now and this was my first time seeing it, it was just wacky. this isn't exactly vegas and all of the casinos are way off the highway. i'm sure the boys lost a bit of money at some point.

now, for the actual show-

drive by taught us some valuable lessons when serving as an opening band. the first one being that if you want to keep energy levels high, just mention the headliner and mention them often. it works! another thing was that they sold they're newest cd for a fiver and even hung out to meet with people and sign stuff. bless their cotton socks! they were alright, it was standard rock fair, but they were solid.

billy talent who for some reason i thought were a british band, but actually they are in fact canadian. by the time their background came up, it became clear that this was turning into a potboiler of an evening. their set in all of it's shouty glory soon set the tone proper for the evening. they totally got the crowd amped up and the first of the evenings' moshing activities got started.

billy talent is one of those bands that i really only knew of in name only, so i had no idea what to expect. i knew gerard for one was a huge fan of theirs, but very little else. it was also during this set that some sad punter got tossed out for jumping for the floor. why do people do that? seriously, if you are trying to sneak on the floor, at least try to do it so that you won't get nabbed by three or four security people. seriously. aside from a quieter moment suitable to mobile waving, it was full-on all the way.

and then...

my chemical romance went on at right at nine and i actually moved from my seat, so i get a wee bit closer to the action. briefly, i was standing next to a couple of women that surely seemed more barry manilow material than my chem and they were all like "you can't stand there for too long, we're expecting people". i really didn't care because number one, i was not even intending on taking those seats, i was just shifting around so i could see something other than the bouncing girl in front of me. but i digress. i should mention that one of the songs playing before the band came on was all you need is love by the beatles which everyone in memorial hall started to sing. dude, wait, what?!

anyway, this would be the point where the pot totally boils over and things can get a bit hectic. it was rather great, to be honest. the band came on and it was weird, but in a good way. it's that thing of seeing a band for the first time when all that you have seen of them is clips on youtube and television. and yes, mikey wore his "mikey fuckin way" shirt and i have to say that gerard way is soooo much more lovely in person. not that he doesn't look nice anyway, but yeah. he also eventually took off his jacket and we got to see gerard arms. now, that may not sound like anything, but fans know how gerard is about keeping himself covered up, so when see actual skin that is somewhere other than his hands or face, it's a bit of a moment.

i heard a lot of my favorite songs save for two (ghost of you and our lady of sorrows), but they did run through their bsides, later on we got a wee bit of november rain with james doing a bit of it solo before he forgot the words and gerard helped him out. aside from some loose expletives and gerard just being his random self ("did you eat your fuckin' wheaties!?!) he was pretty well-behaved. he also said bonjour a lot and stated once again that the band would be taking a long break, about two years. we'll see about that. but the band have been on tour forever, so this is great for them, not so much for the fangirls. one girl looked really deflated leaving the venue. awww, sugar! all in all the band was in top form and i am totally going to st. louis now.

other "highlights"
* gerard getting in touch with his inner cowboy. seriously, hearing a jersey boy screaming yee-haw, is amusing in every way possible.
* while there was no freard despite frank being over that ways a few times, there was some waycest lite (for those who enjoy that sort of thing) in the form of gerard patting mikey on the head.
* there were a lot of young people...and i mean of the nowhere near teenage variety. there was a girl in front of me who must have been all of nine or ten and seeing her singing teenagers was a trip.
* likewise, there were a lot of people who clearly would not be considered in the mcr demographic. there were the 20 and 30 somethings as well as the 40, 50 and 60 somethings. and some of these people were actually on their own and not with any kids. true story.
* gerard also gave props to one of kansas city's fine venues for live music, the el torreon. bless his black cotton socks for that. he said it was their second favorite place behind some joint in finland, i think it was. when i was looking over all the dates they have had, they have been through the kc area loads of times and that's awesome because we get passed up and it sucks. as such, i always appreciate the bands who show us a bit of love.

+| setlist |+
give'em hell, kid
this is how i disappear
dead!
hang'em high
my way home is through you
welcome to the black parade
i don't love you
the sharpest lives
headfirst for halos
heaven help us
cemetary drive
house of wolves
kill all your friends
i'm not okay
mama
you know what they do to guys like us in prison
teenagers
famous last words
james' solo/ november rain
cancer
::ENCORE::
desert song
desolation row
helena

Drive ByMy Chemical RomanceBilly Talent
