I was so excited about Single Frame releasing a new EP, I wanted to tell everyone about it. So I have. Frustratingly, the EP doesn't yet seem to be in Last.fm's catalogue.

Here's what I did this Christmas: I compiled this video of performances by some of the great bands I saw in 2007. I would have embedded it but sadly Last.FM only likes YouTube and Google Video.

Enjoy! And sorry for the poor production values. It was all shot on mobile phones and edited on free software, after all.

Beastie Boys not Best at Bestival

Oh man! There can't be many bands that actually sound worse when they pick up their instruments, but the Beastie Boys headline performance at Bestival was a surprising let-down.

If I'd paid money just to se them I'd have been massively disappointed. You see, unlike secret guests Madness, who went down a storm, they insisted on playing their recent all-instrumental funk rubbish instead of sticking to the hits. This is probably because unlike Madness, who have 'retired' and earn a nice little pension playing to adoring nostalic audiences, they're still labouring under the impression that their new material isn't indulgent tosh.

I don't normally begrudge a change in direction for a band, but this is too much and they must be stopped. The crowd were leaving in droves. One angry Ghostbuster next to me waved his beer-filled Supersoaker in the air and yelled "hey guys, we wanna FIGHT for our RIGHT to SOMETHING!". But it seems the Boys were not listening.

Still they did play Intergalactic and somehow that made everything alright.

Trying to set up a 'Musician' account on MySpace was such a frustrating experience, I thought I'd try it out on Last.fm. And surprise surprise, Last.fm makes the process very straightforward.

But I am beginning to wonder whether I should have used that picture.

Supersonic '07 video feature

Hooray! You can now watch a short feature I made about last weekend's Supersonic over at BBC Collective, plus extended interviews with Duracell and Oxbow Duo.

It's very difficult for me to pick favourite performances from the festival (Oxbow Duo and Duracell being obvious highlights) because I enjoyed almost everything - but I'd never heard Kling Klang before, so they were a real treat, Chrome Hoof were hilariously entertaining and it was great to finally experience Sunn O))) in all their terrifying glory. I might buy a smoke machine and invite a sinister monk round to see if I can recreate the atmosphere in my lounge.

OK, so after the last Nightmare Before Christmas, which saw the ATP parasite transfer to a larger host (Butlins) and was rife with interminable queueing, I wasn't sure what to expect at ATP Vs. The Fans. Reports from friends who had been to see the Dirty Three-curated weekend a few weeks before were promising, but I was delighted to see for myself that the queueing issue which had threatened to overshadow Nightmare was pretty much sorted. In fact I barely queued at all, and instead had to make do with standing next to groups of friends I didn't know while tutting and checking my watch.

Sure, Butlins Minehead still lacks the atmosphere of Camber Sands, but I really can't complain after enjoying Battles, The Books, Isis, Daniel Johnston, Notwist, Les Savy Fav, Shellac (twice!), Slint, Subtitle, Subtle and Why? all in one weekend. And those are just my favourites.

Subtle, Why? and Les Savy Fav were particular highlights for me and you can read more about them over on superproduct - plus check out the video of Why? and Doseone performing a bit of cLOUDDEAD! They're definitely not afraid of pleasing an audience.

Just in case anyone's interested, I've started a new website, superproduct, on which I'll be shouting about exciting music I come across in London, usually accompanied by a crappy video shot on my phone.

Once the site's been up and running for a while it won't only be about music, but so far it is...
