Friday:
Slayer
Good performance, better than I expected. The setlist was acceptable I guess, the fact that they only played three songs from the period 1983-1986 pisses me off, but seeing as one of them was Chemical Warfare, I really can't complain. The band themselves played fairly good, King messed up a few solos (War Ensemble's being the first to come to mind) but Hanneman and ESPECIALLY Lombardo played really good. I was blown away by Lombardo's drumming, out of all members his performance was by far the tightest.

Nile
One of the only 3 bands I needed to see on Friday, I was pretty pissed they played at the same time as Motörhead. But since I already saw Motörhead before, I decided to go to Nile. I was not disappointed. Extremely tight playing. Karl Sanders is almost as old as Kerry King (I think King is three days older, yes, days), and seeing the two play on the same day just made clear how much better Karl is. He barely made any mistakes, same with the rest of the band. Seeing Dallas bald was pretty weird, but the second Kafir started I just didn't give a fuck anymore and started headbanging. Great set, probably my third-favorite show of the weekend.

I was thinking about going to see Saxon, but considering I saw some people I knew at the camp site and I already saw them back in '08, I decided not to.


Saturday:
Sabaton
This my fifth time seeing them, and as always, a great show. Very energetic performances, jokes(?) about their supposed(?) homosexuality, and a great setlist. I didn't like Coat of Arms that much, but the three songs they played from said album were probably the best of said album, and pretty solid material (title track, Screaming Eagles and Saboteurs). Like always, the crowd loved them. Joakim could've kept his metal machine is his pants, but oh well, you can't have everything right? Second best show this graspop, and probably second best Sabaton show I saw so far.

Carcass
I only saw a small part of the show, but the show I saw was pretty solid. I wasn't paying a lot of attention so I don't have a lot to say about this gig.

Obituary
Great show. The setlist I checked before the gig didn't have Find The Arise, so I was really fucking glad when they opened with Find The Arise. I got hit in the face pretty hard in the pit during said song, and lost a small piece of one of my teeth. But the band was great, I do have a question though: where the fuck was the second (and lead) guitarist? The riff lost some of their power and most of the songs had no solo (I only heard one). Aside from that, it was a good show. Growling the lyrics of songs like Chopped in Half and Find the Arise together with thousands of other metalheads was just mindblowing.

Tankard
They never were my favorite thrash band, but they're great live. They generally sound more 'fun' than other German thrash bands (referring to lyrics here), and this works great live. Solid setlist as well, and (Empty) Tankard remains of the greatest thrash songs of all time.

Sunday
Necrophobic
The sun fucked up pretty bad the past two days, so I just sat back for this one. I didn't see a lot, but what I heard was great. I will be certainly looking deeper intro their discography.

Exodus
This was a disaster (and no, not just because of Dukes). I heard they played Bonded By Blood + The Toxic Waltz, so I was pretty excited actually. Yeah, Dukes was there, but I was convinced the rest of the band could make it enjoyable. They came on, and immediately started with one of their new, overlong, boring songs. However, the disappointment I felt however, became relief. When they played A Lesson In Violence (third song I guess) I was just baffled over how terrible it was. Dukes vocals were bad, but the sound of the band was just horrible. If Dukes hadn't announced the song I would not have recognized it until the chorus. They didn't get a lot of crowd response, and quit 10 minutes before they should have (I didn't mind).

Bloodbath
Their 6th show ever. They're decent on record, but great live. I only knew a few songs, but I really liked the gig. Just seeing musicians of their caliber together on one stage was a treat. The drumming especially sounded very good live. I don't know how Akerfeldt managed to survive in that heat with that leather jacket on.

Amon Amarth
Best show of the weekend. By far. Great band performances and incredible crowd response. I also really liked the set list too, especially the first part. Near the end of their set during Cry of The Black Birds the power was cut, but Johan Hegg entertaining the crowd for ten minutes only added to the experience.
As I said, this was the best show I saw at the festival, and a great way to end the weekend.

5. Rigor Mortis - Rigor Mortis

This album is killer material. Every single track, from the instrumental opener 'Welcome to Your Funeral' to the last notes of 'Die in Pain' just keeps a crushing grip on your balls, not letting go for the 41 minutes this album lasts. Every single song is a highlight, fast riffing, great vocals and solos that could very well be the definition of 'speed metal'.
Favorite tracks: Vampire, Bodily Dismemberment, Shroud of Gloom

4. Kreator - Pleasure To Kill

The only album on my list that isn't American, and it deserves it's place. Brutal riffs, evil-sounding vocals and awesome lyrics. The intro track actually confused me the first time I was listening to it, only to rape up the ass with Ripping Corpse.

3. Dark Angel - Darkness Descends

What more is there to say about this legendary album? Every himself respecting thrash metal fan knows pretty much everything about Dark Angel's masterpiece, and it's pretty much all true. Classic stuff. (I lol'd when I saw a faggot on Metal archives giving it 20%, said he wasn't a 'mallcore poser', but yet has a Chimaira album at 60%)

2. Slayer - Show No Mercy

Yes, I included a Slayer album, and no, it isn't Reign in Blood. (Don't get me wrong, RiB is great, but Show No Mercy is simply better.)
The reason I picked this over Reign in Blood, is the guitarwork. Both the riffs and solos just seem better on this album.

1. Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death

Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. This album is insanely awesome. The first seconds of the album is like a sledgehammer to the face, and the rest of the album is pure unrelenting, thrashing evil, that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Riffs, drums, solos, vocals, ...
Everything is beyond perfection.

Diablo was okay, they were good at what they do but after a few songs it started to sound a bit alike. I do find it awesome they played a song in tribute to Chuck Schuldiner.

Cannibal Corpse was awesome, it does kind of suck they only got 45 minutes, and it does suck they didn't play Devoured By Vermin, but otherwise great setlist and performance. George threatening to kill us if we didn't buy Evisceration Plague was pretty amusing too.

Children of Bodom. First of all, NO NEEDLED 24/7? FOLLOW THE REAPER? ARE YOU DEAD YET?? KISSING THE SHADOWS? WHAT BLASPHEMOUS MADNESS IS THIS?! Alright, the actual show was good, although the vocals didn't sound loud enough. Setlist was pretty good (the flaws are mentioned above). The sound quality overall (outside of the vocals) was actually pretty good. I am still pissed that they played songs like Living Dead Beat, Children of Decadence, Bed of Razors, Angels Don't Kill and Sixpounder while not playing Needled 24/7, Follow The Reaper and Are You Dead Yet?. VIKING METAL: The protagonist arrives on a ship, beheads the dragon with an axe, eats its carcass, rapes the princess to death, and burns the castle down.

DOOM METAL: The protagonist arrives and tells the princess he can't live without her, then commits suicide by feeding himself to the dragon.

SPEED METAL: Suddenly there is a short solo, the dragon is confused by someone screaming weird stuff, the princess realizes she's been violated, and she's still looking for the one who did this.

BRUTAL DEATH METAL: The protagonist arrives, and slays the dragon and the princess with a chainsaw and a heavy hammer, then he dismembers the corpses in a lot of bloody flesh pieces.

FOLK METAL: The protagonist arrives with some friends playing accordions, violins, flutes and many more weird instruments, the dragon falls asleep (because of all the dancing). Then all leave........ without the princess.

GORE METAL: The protagonist arrives, kills the dragon and spreads his guts in front of the castle, fucks the princess and kills her.Then he fucks the dead body again, slashes her belly and eats her guts. Then he fucks the carcass for the third time, burns the corpse and fucks the ashes for the last time.

GRIND METAL: The protagonist arrives, screams something completely undecipherable for about 2 minutes and then leaves...

GOTHIC METAL: The princess in a velvet costume starts singing soprano. The protagonist completes the duet by adding the growly beast part, while the dragon plays the flute. GLAM METAL: The protagonist arrives, the dragon laughs at the guy's appearance and lets him enter. He steals the princess' make up and tries to paint the castle in a beautiful pink colour.

BATTLE METAL: The protagonist arrives with a legion of a hundred brave footman, war chariots and a dozen elite warriors and, as a master tactician, flanks the dragon in a bloody siege that lasts six hours. The princess gets bored


EMO: The protagonist sees the dragon and moans about how hard it will be to get the princess to fall in love with him, He gets eaten. The princess is very happy, because he was a whiny fag anyway.

Black Knight canceled, making Grailknights the first and only opening act, and I must say they were alot better then I expected. I didn't know any of their songs, but they were pretty sweet. One of friends passed out 2/3'd in their show.
What I saw was good.

After that Sabaton got on stage, and it was epic. I saw them live for the 4th time there, and it was the best show of all 4. Great setlist (really didn't expect Angels Calling and Counterstrike, although In The Name of God or any Metalizer track would have been a fine addition), good audience and great effort from the band. Mÿhr smashing his keyboards to bits was cool too, my cousin got a piece. Overall a really satisfying performance.]]>
