Julieta seems to have sold out to an extent. She's very mainstream these days.

2 Ani DiFranco

Difficult to criticize my all-time favorite. I'll say, though, that Educated Guess is a very weak album.


3 Rachael Sage

Thing is, I think Rachael's most brilliant work is on her first two albums, and since then, she hasn't been as good by comparison and a lot of her newest songs are derivative of other songs of hers.


4 The New Pornographers

They need to use Neko Case even more.


5 Eliza Gilkyson

Some of her music can be trite, and sometimes she oversimplifies complex political issues. A lot of the songs on Land of Milk and Honey are perfect examples of this.

I don't always know what she's talking about.


7 Tori Amos

I don't always know what she's talking about, either, and even more so.


8 Patty Griffin

"Tony" on Flaming Red...not really a good song.


9 Fleetwood Mac

They let those damn Americans join. Just kidding! I can criticize them easily for songs like Family Man and When I See You Again. Also, they couldn't hold on to some of their very best musicians/songwriters/singers.

Most of Under The Blacklight sucks.

Her debut album was a little too sleepy at times.

Sometimes he's just all self-indulgent. I think it's quantity over quality for him sometimes.

She's not married to me.

You have to be in the mood for her. She's not one you listen to all the time.

She should've performed longer than she did when I saw her live. She is fucking amazing live.

I had more problems than I could handle during my junior year in college. Somehow, it seemed like Ani was singing about all of them. It's nice not to be alone.

"Say Goodbye" and "Beautiful Child" are the hardest to take.

"Latiendo como el sol/Mi corazón no tiene edad/Para esperarte" (one of my faves)

In 2000, I saw the video for "Every Day" and fell in love with Stevie. About three years later, I figured I should check out the rest of the band. Also, my best friend told me that she (Stevie) was better with FM than solo, so I had to see what she was talking about.

"Criminal"

right now, I think I'd say "The Jig is Up"

-- how many times have you seen 9 live?
Never have. Her goofy stage antics might drive me crazy and the tickets cost too much, anyway. I really prefer her studio stuff.

-- what is a good memory you have concerning 2?
This is sort of good. I wrote an English translation to "Estoy Aqui" (my favorite song of hers) and changed the lyrics up a bit to fit something I was going through last summer. It was cathartic.

"Dear Chicago"

definitely Fear

Discovering the song "Incognito." I liked to think of going off to college that way, that I could "recommence ma vie a zero" and feel "bien dans ma peau," knowing that the faces are all new and people didn't already know about all my missteps in life.]]>
