In fact, 'similar' is basically defined, in the lastfm world, as what an individual listens to. In any case, because I'm active on lastfm, and because I listen to myself so much, other artists I listen to, such as Shadow In The Mirror, now have me as a 'similar artist', despite the fact that we're really different.


Or are we? Thought Pyramid definitely is similar -- it wrote a song with the exact same notes as one of mine(years later, I beat 'em to the punch by the looks). Nyet to the neins has to be similar -- it's got some of my close family's DNA in it, so the way we approach music is by definition similar. Jeff Cliff & (insert band here) is right on the mark, most of these are just me, while making sure to credit where credit was due. And so on. I guess it depends what people are listening to in the past few months, and since I wasn't active for a little while the stuff of mine that people did listen to (the techno/ambient stuff) tended to sway the 'similar artists' in the direction it was in. As if I were responsible for lastfm's content in the first place. WTF. No wonder nPHYN doesn't play with them much...jeez---they are, I might add, the only band I've bought a CD from in a long, long time that has not explicitly granted permission to distribute their work(and their work is one of the only CDs I have that I have not put on the p2p nets). And for my persistence in respecting their copyrights and giving them all sorts of high recommendations to dozens if not hundreds of people I get this in return?

Maybe I'm just tired (it's 5am---today will be a long day) but still. It's kind of lame without the bass. But it seems to be a lot closer to my type of music than I was previously willing to admit.

The editing is outright masterful, though. I think that's where Trent Reznor came in, but in case it's Saul Williams, kudos to that.

In the meanwhile, has Saul Williams and Trent Reznor ever been seen at the same place at the same time? *edit*: okay, not so promising -- can't seem to get enough cpu-slice(despite only requiring like 45-55mb ram), occasionally freezes up for a few hours, and is a little flaky/crash-prone. pumping the cpu slice up a little helps but still, xmms had this beat in the woody days...the trade off for web 2.0 and a whole bunch of other stuff...it's tempting to just find someone with a woody disc set and keep using that...
