Hey. In case you're wondering what my page is all about lately. Today 13th of april, 2013, our Dutch national pride, the Royal Dutch Museum ("Rijksmuseum"), famous for the blatant display of many treasures including our Silverfleet, Van Gogh paintings, Rembrandt paintings, will be opened by our queen, her majesty Beatrix van Oranje.

It's a great and grand day for me, Marco Aldendorff, because I was for years the personal guard of Netherland's biggest treasure, the "Nightwatch" by Rembrandt.

I used to stand next to it, uniformed. I am in millions of (family-) pictures, and I missed my darling. I even once had the honour of saving the painting from an attack. Therefore I have a personal relationship with it.

Also, when *I* was an employee of the Rijksmuseum (been a tour guide for years), 80% of our national treasures were hidden. Deep in the cellars. I never could take any friends to see them. Many afternoons I'd go there myself and sort-of enjoyed my solitude amidst the national treasures, mostly hidden from everybody -- the tourists and also our nationals.

Tomorrow, so I've been told, the world has been turned upside down. 80% of our treasures will be open to the public, maybe 20% reside in cellars depots and libraries..

Can you imagine how I feel? It's like coming home.

I am gonna pick up my guided tours again soon. You'll be amazed what I have to tell you. I will combine it with my "infamous" red light district tour, I will tell you what makes Amsterdam unique, controversial and prosperous. I speak 5 languages and once I get the Royal Museum back (need study, obviously) I'm ready to take you on a trip, full of humour and surprise, you'll never forget. And you'll BE MY GUEST. :)

Poesybeat.org for all songwriters/composers

I've been part of Poesybeat.org as a contributor and I must say it's really great fun. The initiative is quite young, Illinois based but open to the entire world through their comprehensive web system.

It works as follows.

Person A writes a poem. Person B (that could be you), takes the poem and uses it in a new song/composition - they call it a beat. The result is a poesybeat, which then can be listened to by the masses. The other way round: You make some original music (or upload a demo you've had lying around) - wait til someone else uses your music to write poetry to. The result can be combined into a poesybeat.

The reason I like this so much, is that you collaborate with people from the other side of the globe - it's free, no hassle inspiration and the results are always unique! They compile Albums of poesybeats.

I'm having my personal Fiona Apple revival again. That's weird every once a year or so, I return to obsessively listening her albums again.. This sickness usually lasts for a few weeks.. OMG that will f*ck up my AS stats..

I'm so in love with her. I've never been in love with someone I've never met (*edit: see below). That can't be healthy - it just can't be.

Does anybody have her phone number? If so - feel free to send me a private message.

Perhaps she and I could go out for a cup of coffee, discuss music, life, business, stuff.. see if I"m really in love with her, or just a figment of my silly boyish imagination.

Gabriel Yared

Guess you all know the feeling of 'falling in love' with music. Sometimes it can be even a music piece completely out of your range of regular tastes. I had that with the Betty Blue (37.2 Le Matin) soundtrack by Gabriel Yared. The movie wasn't even all that spectacular - the music though turned it into magic.

Out of curiosity I kept following Yared - at first it was quite hard to find other music by this great composer. Until I found the L'Amant soundtrack - I fell of my chair when I first heard it - admiration, complete adoration, that absolutely unique little taste of perfection, I remember it well.

It's a soundtrack I play seldomly. Know why? I don't want it to erode. I keep it like a little jewel in a secret place... You all know the phenomenon of music becoming less interesting the more often you play it.. I don't want that to happen.

Since then I'm a fan. You all should listen to the beautiful soundtracks of films like The Talented Mr.Ripley, Sylvia, Message in a Bottle, Cold Mountain, and ofcourse award-winners like City of Angels and The English Patient(!!).

Plus, if you happen to like Thomas Newman or Yann Tiersen you definately should give Gabriel Yared a chance!

Even the rejected soundtrack Troy (Rejected Score) is a true masterpiece.

Now there is a Gabriel Yared group on Audioscrobbler. Please join, because we need members there.

Righty... Keep an eye out for this great composer!
