Mike was a little angry with feedback issues onstage. This was evident when he threw the mic into the back of a stagehand.

Jane's Addiction were equally awesome. Perry Farrell is a suave performer.

Meshuggah were brutal. Tight, one of the best metal shows I've seen.

Rolo Tomassi were interesting. Great players and that chick can scream!

AFI was the worst shit I have ever heard. The singer was woeful. He couldn't hold a note.

Placebo were average. Amazing compared to AFI though.

Anvil were a novelty but ordinary.

Apart from that, I avoided all the terrible emo and awful pop punk shite. Which was most of the day. Thank fuck for Jane's Addiction and Faith No More.

The best songs were their heavier ones - Caffeine was awesome. The only track I thought didn't have a great vibe was Easy. I can imagine how bored they must be of playing that song.

When I was a kid, I loved Guns N' Roses. When The Spaghetti Incident? was released, before I'd heard it, everyone I spoke to about it said it sucked. I recently downloaded a torrent of it so I could hear it for the first time (that's right record companies - people use "illegal downloading" to hear music they may want to buy some day!)

Well I have to say I think the album is brilliant. Gunners captured some raw, brutal, punk rock energy (the total opposite of Chinese Democracy!) I realised that my friends back then just didn't like real punk music. They liked grunge pop like Nirvana's Nevermind. But not real metal/punk influenced grunge like Melvins, Nirvana's Bleach and Green River. And they definitely didn't understand punk.

I'm just glad I can now listen to The Spaghetti Incident? like it is a brand new album, and forget that Chinese Democracy ever existed.

I just downloaded an album "illegally". I feel guilty. But I'm an artist too. The album was $30 instore. The artist gets $4 - $5 of that. I want the artist to get that money. But fuck paying a retailer, GST, and all the staff at a major record label the other $25.

Why can't I just transfer $5 to the artist? I'll happily do that!

Each artist should have a donate button on their website. How many people would use it? I seriously would - if it meant cutting the record label out of the chain, and giving the artist money to make more of the music that I liked enough to download in the first place.

Fuck corporations, long live art!
