I love to make lists. I make lists for the smallest of things like what I am going to do the next day or things I need to mention to a person before I phone them. I also love music, so making a list involving music is one of my most favourite things to do. Some of these have been rediscovered, but I felt they still deserved to be included. I am also not good at keeping to 10. Now, onto the lists...

Top Albums

11. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

10. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea

9. M83 - Saturdays=Youth

8. Radiohead - In Rainbows

7. Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

6. Band of Horses - Cease to Begin

5. Shiny Toy Guns - Season of Poison

4. Feist - The Reminder

3. David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

This album's one of those "all-time classics" and I first downloaded it because my dad enjoyed a few tracks from it which he had heard in his youth at nightclubs. When I sat down and listened to it however, it blew my mind. I then went through a Bowie phase for the few months that followed.

2. Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton - Knives Don't Have Your Back

I actually first downloaded this album last year but only realised how great it was this year. It's one of those deeply depressing albums with only a piano and voice on most of the songs so that you are forced to hear the lyrics, which you will find the need to reiterate to yourself because they are so meaningful. I love this woman.

1. Lydia - Illuminate

I wholeheartedly thank Shannon (blog) for showing me towards this band. I still have not checked out their first album because I'm way too content with listening to this one over and over. It's one of those albums that just clears my mind with its pellucid sound with songs like "Hospital" and "This Is Twice Now".

Top Songs

11. Emmy the Great - Two Steps Forward

10. Of Montreal - Cato as a Pun

9. Radiohead - Reckoner

8. M83 - We Own The Sky

7. This Town Needs Guns - 26 is Dancier than 4

6. Blue Roses/Laura Groves - I Am Leaving

5. Shiny Toy Guns - Final/Reprise

4. Roxy Music - If There Is Something

3. Band of Horses - The Funeral

2. Lydia - Hospital/This Is Twice Now (I can't choose)

1. Okkervil River - Lost Coastlines

La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la, oh oh ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I LOVE THIS SONG!!!
(I was going to include the YouTube video to this song, but I just realised that it cuts out my favourite part (see above lyric) so instead, I urge you to go listen to the full version by downloading it legally for free here).

Top Artists/Bands

This section is more focused on artist/bands I feel I have enjoyed overall, either by going through their back catalogue or enjoying their live performances; sometimes even enjoying their company.

10. Colour

9. Los Campesinos!

8. Laura Hocking

7. Andrew Bird

6. Casiotone for the Painfully Alone

5. This Town Needs Guns

4. Blue Roses/Laura Groves

3. David Bowie

2. Band of Horses

1. Emmy the Great

EXTRA:

Albums I am most excited to hear in 2009

Emmy the Great - First Love - February 2nd

Patrick Wolf - Battle - February

If you live in the UK and are a fan of Patrick Wolf, please buy a bandstock (or more) of his upcoming album. Find out more information go here. I think he is also planning on expanding it to the rest of the world as well!

Mute Math - TBA - March

Metric - TBA - Early 2009

Blue Roses - TBA - Spring

St. Vincent - TBA - 2009

I had Patrick Wolf and Metric on this list last year! Check my music MySpace for my full and regularly updated calendar. I decided to only put the ones I am most excited for on here because I find I actually don't listen to that many I plan to listen to.

Please link me to your lists once you've made them! Bring on 2009!

It's late, I should be asleep. But I decided to write this journal entry as I thought it'd be interesting. Here are the bands I despise. It's short, but sweet. This list isn't only comprised by the amount of shittiness they entail, but also how much they come across my path/how big they are and how much certain friends of mine rant on about them. If bands were to be quietly shitty, I'd be totally fine with that. I also hate these bands due to their lack of originality, I'm all for bands in their own rights. So here it is:

Scouting for Girls
One Night Only
Elliot Minor
Madina Lake
Simple Plan
Alphabeat

What's your list? Tell me.
