This album's one of those "all-time classics" and I first downloaded it because my dad enjoyed a few tracks from it which he had heard in his youth at nightclubs. When I sat down and listened to it however, it blew my mind. I then went through a Bowie phase for the few months that followed.

2. Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton - Knives Don't Have Your Back

I actually first downloaded this album last year but only realised how great it was this year. It's one of those deeply depressing albums with only a piano and voice on most of the songs so that you are forced to hear the lyrics, which you will find the need to reiterate to yourself because they are so meaningful. I love this woman.

1. Lydia - Illuminate

I wholeheartedly thank Shannon (blog) for showing me towards this band. I still have not checked out their first album because I'm way too content with listening to this one over and over. It's one of those albums that just clears my mind with its pellucid sound with songs like "Hospital" and "This Is Twice Now".
